I consider Cordoba my second home. I love the countryside and the people there, to say nothing of the shooting. Been twice, hope to go once more.

The beef and the Malbec are wonderful. What a great place!

Have fun and be safe. I see Jimmy is wearing his Sunday-go-to-meeting brush pants and that hat is really you. Tell Mr. Allgood I said hey.

A few yesterday . We’re going to a feeder lot today that they claim has a fair amount of pigeons .

We have one fellow that’s gone crazy shooting . He killed 1000+ birds Sunday afternoon and then he killed 1500+ on Monday . His ammo bill is going to be astronomical .

I’ve stayed at La Portenita and it’s superb. It was mainly doves when I was there but most lodges are now offering some pigeon shooting! Have fun and be safe.

Two questions. 1. Did anyone bring their own gun? 2. How many guns did Honest John bring along to sell?

John Dallas

Our group took our guns, but that was 15 years ago. Wouldn't take them today

I took my own guns, but that was 20 - 30 years ago too.

I have not shot pigeons in South America and want to. I hear that is even more fun than doves

I shot 475 12 gauge shells today and killed 414 birds . That’s an 87% average I did however get 3 or 4 I killed two with a single shot and once I fired once and knocked four down so the bird said . I let the bird boy shoot a box an Marvcell was 20 of 25 . I shot a Benelli Montefeltro today . The other days I shot Beretta 686 O/U 20’s and a 28 .

Thanks buddy, it's like I'm there. Looks like a lot of fun but I don't think I could pull the trigger for 1000+ birds. What you did today would be sufficient. Is that a bottle of Tequila?

Good spot Daryl. I believe that's used for rubbing on sore shoulders after a long day of shooting. This crew wouldn't drink that stuff :corn:

Last time I went was in 2010 and we took our own guns. I want to go back badly, but it wouldn't be the same without being able to use my own gun(s). Both times I went I shot my Beretta 687 SP II Sporting 20 ga. It is a special little gun to me, now. Using a lodge's jammamatic just wouldn't be the same, somehow. Some of our guys let the bird boys clean their guns at the end of the day. I did not. I clean my own guns.

Last trip I shot for three hours each morning and three each afternoon. I averaged over 1000 doves killed a day, with a total of 4350 for four days (8 three-hour shoots). I had no recoil related issues at all. IMO, after seeing many guys shooting (there were 17 of us at the River Lodge with Luis Sier), recoil related problems are much more related to poor gun mounts than the guns themselves or the loads. A friend of mine who was shooting a 20 ga. Browning was still bleeding through his shirt at church on Sunday, after we had arrived back in the states on Thursday.

That would be for owl hunting. Owls hoot, pigeons coo.

I’d rather have had something other than the Beretta 686’s but the Benelli Montefeltro felt okay and I’m no great fan of semi auto’s .

My favorite time to go to shoot in Cordoba is August. It is early spring there and the weather is chilly at night but warms up in the mornings to where a short sleeved shirt is comfortable during mid-day.

If I ever go back that is the month I want to go.

If I were going to fish in South America it would pretty much be a trout only thing as far as finned critters are concerned .

John Dallas

Our fishing was fly fishing for trout

Lots of great fishing in Argentina! Trout are found basically in the south and not generally in the area where bird hunting takes place. But the Golden Dorado fishing is superb in many areas in central and northern Argentina. Even catching piranha can be fun! Careful taking them off the hook!

I was thinking a day or two ago if I ever went back I’d like to shoot more dove/pigeons , maybe get some perdiz , may do a little fly fishing for trout and possibly shoot a Red Stag . But after cleaning gutters today I think I’m better sticking with dove/pigeons and quite possibly a day for perdiz . Although the Red Stag would be okay if they put me in a high seat somewhere I suppose , but stalking ain’t in the cards .
