This vintage English 10 gauge SxS is clearly marked “Laminated Steel”, though it’s obviously a Damascus “Crolle” pattern. Permission was gladly granted for my use of the photographs. There is certainly enough documentation of various price lists differentiating between the many varieties of composite barrels. Is it possible that back then Damascus & Laminated barrels were considered the same? It seems they were by William Goodyer.
Interesting for sure.

Handsome gun!
My old WW Greener has such a faint pattern that its hard to tell if it is twist or laminate, I need to get it refinished.

No way to confuse the patterns, unless the rib was stamped prior to coloring.

But even the Parker rib guy had a bad day every now and again

A c. 1880 Lifter with Laminated Steel (hard to tell) marked Twist
