Almost grabbed the O frame 16 Hammer gun today, but have never carried this old beauty hunting, so it got the call. I do shoot SC with it. A WW Greener 12 ga sidelever that dates to 1875( thanks Rick Losey). It has 30" cyl/cyl barrels, my favorite. The dynamic sister duo--yes they are littermates, of Willie and Doodle proved to be the downfall to these roosters, and the Greener accomodated with 2 right barrel kills. Then it was off to the treestand at noon, where the bucks passed out of range of my crossbow(Ohio). A pot roast dinner and a jumbo Manhattan round out the evening. Life is good.

I have a 1 frame 16 hammer I wanna take after quail . But I’ve never tried hunting birds with a hammer gun and can’t say I’m comfortable with it for the safety factor when going in with three other people .

Craig, I only hunt hammer guns when by myself, for that very reason. Carry it with the hammers cocked, but gun broke open--just close the action as you bring the gun up , or when dogs go on point. I really enjoy hammer guns.

Might try it in the dove field .

Besides the description of size stated as Jumbo, what kind of bourbon does the good doctor require for a proper Manhattan? Your a more sophisticated Scot than I thought, but I guess the 1880 drink makes perfect sense. Especially in celebration with an even older side lever.
