Next week we'll be headed back to Maine to chase grouse and mudbats. Looking forward to those cool/crisp Maine hunting days with friends and bird dogs. The Parker VH 16g and the Lefever G grade 12g 26" will be heading up with me. Last year was a wonderful week. Put up 65 grouse, was 11/18 on them and 1/1 on mudbat. The birds are plentiful in the area this year. I hope the mudbat flight is on when we are there because that's just fun!! Nicht besser!!

Will do. Maybe it'll be Parker Pages worthy? Have to check with the new editors. :rotf:

Possibility we will have 1 spot opening up. One guy just received a summons for federal jury duty beginning 10/14. :banghead: He'll know tomorrow if he can go along. If not we'd be happy to add another Parker shooter to the mix. Stay tuned.

We hunted western Maine last week. Steve Monti, Lou Rotelli and I. We had Lou’s GSP and our oldest Setter. Wound up hunting 5 days. Steve and I hunted together most of the week. We flushed 28 grouse and 10 mudbat. Steve killed 4 grouse, Lou killed 1 grouse and 1 mudbat while I killed 1 grouse and 1 mudbat. I missed 1 grouse and 1 mudbat. Used a 16g VH early in the week. It accounted for the mudbat. Used a Lefever 12g 26” H grade for the grouse.

Numbers were way down from 2018 when we flushed 65 grouse and 7 mudbat in 6 days. Various factors seem to be contributing to low numbers. Harsh winter followed by an extremely wet breeding season. Throw in some West Nile and that’ll do it.

There was plenty of food. Mountain Ash berries, birch catkins, maple seeds, high bush cranberry, choke berry, beech nuts, etc were everywhere. Habitat was good too. First part of the week was dry. Thursday-Friday were not.

Sorry about that last pic. No matter what I try it will not invert.

Was able to make the correction on my CPU. Sometimes the phones just can't get things done.

That grouse is going to be mounted drumming. It will be a nice addition to the lodge and will compliment the other 4.

I tried superimposing a nice Parker over that (mfg. name withheld) shotgun but it didn't work....

BWAHAHAHA!!! Thanks Dean. Could have been worse, could have been an Elsie!!

I was posting from my phone in a tree stand and just couldn’t change the pic. BTW, my bows are Parker’s too!

I do have plenty of pics from last year with the 16g VH. You’ll see them soon enough.

Hey!...... it's not sporting to climb trees and shake the branches to make the grouse fly.
