This once little fellow had his first hunt today so I did not know what to expect. It has been so hot I had not taken him and with lots of shooting I was worried. Went yesterday morning and was soaking wet with sweat by 7 a.m but got my limit of 15 with the DHE 16. So I decided to let Mosby go on his first hunt today and was he excited. I had shot around him a lot while he was inside and last week broke him into the .410 when the dummy dove was thrown. Let him sample a couple of real birds from last weekend with practice retrieves on Labor Day.

Took the 20 Trojan and not a lot of birds but Mosby retrieved all seven, a couple with a little assistance when I killed a double and he only concentrated on the first one. By the time I left he was watching every twitty bird in the sky and wanted to go get them, excited at the prospect of them falling!

I had tried to get him to retrieve a couple of geese I brought home on Labor Day, but he said man, they are too big. We'll see what he does with them this fall.

Is he a chocolate or black Jerry? He looks choc in the first photo but black in the second. Either way he's a looker and named after a very interesting survivor of the war.

Chocolate. Thanks. Always had quail dogs and would not think of having one of them in the house, but they would have been nothing like this terror. I never knew labs would get into so much trouble.
