These photos are from a year ago. With a little luck, we will go again this weekend. No ducks on this trip, but the scenery and company were great.

I was shooting a GH 12 gauge with 32 inch barrels which will be featured in an upcoming Parker Pages article.

We went this Saturday. Arrived around 4:15 AM and checked in. Went to put on our waders and found out I had grabbed Julia's set and they wouldn't fit. Went back to check in and said take us out, we had the wrong waders. DNR guy said "how about you use mine, I have them in the truck?" So we did and had a good time despite no ducks. It was freezing snd below 33 degrees the whole time. Harry wanted to go to the Waffle House. I told him the Waffle House always tastes best after duck hunting. He later agreed I was right about that.

I tell this story to recognize the folks who work at Butler Island and to remind us there are some truly great folks who work for the government, even when there are many who are not

Well if I had my way I'd keep six in the house !

Three Border Terriers , a pair of English Setters and a Boykin !

At the present I have a Border as I have for the last 55 years . And hopefully in April a Boykin bitch will be added to the household !

Mills, the picture is my 7 month old Britt Hank. I took him to a preserve today after a tower shoot and he pointed after flushing two previous pheasants.

I was at a preserve in central VA a couple weeks ago . They'd had a pheasents driven shoot on Saturday and we hit it on Monday . Three of us with guns and another guy handling the dogs . The fellow who owned the dogs brought a Viszla and a 6 month old Brittany . The Viszla did well but he's about five . The little Brittany did very well with a couple stanch points . This was out of Elmo Landres BanDee Brittney line , I'd hunted over some of the same line thirty years prior . My old bird hunting partner used them heavily for Grouse in the VA mountains . To be honest they worked a good bit better then my setters .

It is beautiful, even though there aren't many birds
