I have an old Parker muzzel loader double barrel. The only markings are
PARKER on both side plates. It has working curly lock hammers ,dbl triggers,
42 inch barrels with 58 inches overall end of barrel to buttplate. I would
say it has 90%+ of the blueing on metal and stain / varnish on wood. The
wooden ramrod is missing but a friend's granddad said he would shoot it ,
just needed a peice of wire to clean out cap holes & some black powder. I
said no , he's 94 yrs old. Story is told that a great, great, great......
grandfather captured it during The Cival War and it killed 26 Yanks in 1 day
on a bayou in Louisianna. I have had in closet for 40 years. Can get wife to
take a couple pics when she gets home tonight if you want ! Anybody know how I
could get it appraised ?

Thanks,,,,,, Buddy Stroud

Better put that muzzel loader back in the closet. With all that history, however it probably belongs in the Cajun museum of tall tales. :(

Hello Buddy: You have a real piece of family history. I would have it mounted over your fireplace and tell that story to all who come to visit you. To anyone else, chances are, it's not worth a lot. But to you IT'S PRICELESS! Thanks for sharing your story.

Best Regards, George

:whistle:IMO only, as a passingly interested student of the late war of Northern Aggression- Lincoln had some real dip-stick Field Commanders- Gen. Hooker stands out- and the political appointee who was made a brigader Gen. overnight with NO West Point background and made several tactical Fubars near Little Round top at Gettysburg-- BUT, even old "Zippo Raider" Wm. T. Sherman with his infamous march that ended in Savannah would have known better to send a patrol into the Louisiana swamps and bayous-

Look at how many ATF enforcement yo-yos disappeared in those swampy bogs with no bottom during and after Prohibition-- No siree, I do not believe that story Suh- Yo great great grandpappy didn't have to shoot any Damn Yankees down there- the gators, skeeters, chiggers and snakes would have done any Yank patrol in- in a heartbeat-:p

My pals than went into Army Ranger program during the Vietnam era- did their pre-'Nam jungle training at Ft. Polk in the Pelican State- and it warn't no cake walk- neither was the RECONDO program set up "in Country"--

I agree with George- great story, great wallhanger, great family history indeed, and being a Grandpa my own self (with another grandchild due in Feb 2011) I love to tell a few tall tales to my "come-afters" on occasion- So enjoy, and relish the thought that NO Union forces ever conquered Cajun Country- They messed up New Orleans fairly well, but that was another story for another time and tellin'--
