you gona use on opening day of dove season...i m going to use a vh twenty ga that has full and modified chokes with a factory 27 inch barrels with a weight of 5 lbs 8 ounces....i think this will be the first i have used it on birds...it s a fine squirl gun....may take a d grade with damascus barrels it use to beong to aman named robert woods johnson the founder of johnson and johnson...i ve only shot cans with it this is a hammerless gun....what are you gona shoot this year aint but 5 weeks till opening day here...charlie

Glad you brought this up Charlie. Reminds me that it's just around the corner. Think I will also take a VH 20, 26" with mod/mod chokes. PH 12 as back up. It also is 26" and choked skeet/ IC. Hope it cools off a little here in TN before 9/1.

Hope that it cools off here,but it never does before opening day. Will open up with a 16 DHE with 28 inch barrels improved and mod. Will shoot my 16 GH with 28 inch barrels improved and full some too.

Join the group Steve, here in Michigan it's the same thing, I just get to watch them fly to states that they are legal in :cuss: Matter of fact I have never been dove hunting, it's something on my bucket list to hopefully do someday.

I consider myself a most lucky dog. A few months ago a very dear friend called and told me about a VHE 28 he knew of in Texas that a widow needed to sell. She had no cell phone and lucky her neighbor helped her pack it up and send so no pictures. Wow when I opened up the box. All original 28" barrels built in 1919 and lettered perfect by Chuck Bishop. Needless to say I will open the Tx dove season with this for white wings I don't care how high up they are!! Backup will be my DHE 20 with 30" barrels. Heat stroke weather here in Texas too.
Hottest dove opening in memory was 110 degrees. It was so hot that even sleeping out under the stars, no one slept until the wee small hours. I am too old for that now and will stay in the AC at 110 degrees.

Five years ago my gunsmith buddy and I had deer and bear Damage Control Permits in a fellows apple/peach orchard . The first animal we got in July of that year it was 102 or 104 in the SHADE . Needless to say anytime we shot a deer or bear we got it as quick as possible and made for home .

We supposedly have DCP's coming this year for two places for deer . To be honest if they fall thru it won't hurt my feelings :whistle:

VH 16 28 in. cyl/full with new-to-me RST shells . . . we'll see. I've had good success with a Model 21 (20 ga. 28 in. mod/full) for the last several years. By the way, I've found that a dove can fly through #8s, but 7 1/2s tend to bring'em on down. Our season in Virginia begins on September 2nd; I'll hunt with the same guys I've hunted with for 50 years.

Thanks, Charlie. The VH was my father's #1 bird gun; when he gave it to me his only comment was: "You'll get your limit with this one." I've never shot a limit with it, but the first time I took it out, I shot a double on wild birds (bobwhite).
