Here are some pictures of todays hunt.Same trojan with me and Chris has the same Dickinson.Birds seemed to be everywhere today.Had one area that was covered.Every step I took seemed to flush a bird.Dog just stayed on point as I missed repeatedly. Finally gain my composure and started knocking birds down.

I had a grand trip planned down there the week between Christmas and New Years. Canvasbacks on Lake Catahoula in the mornings and woodcock in the afternoons. Had to cancel at the last minute due to lake of either bird in the region. I'm glad you boys got into a few.

Destry we got skunked last year no birds anywhere. But as you can see we hit it just right.Woodcock were a little difficult but we found birds and some real good pockets of birds. We flushed over 30 birds in an hour in one.

Now this year the ducks were there for sure.Lots of mallards and greening teal with some gadwall and pintails.Hunting was great for the last week of the season.Birds decoyed well and plenty to shoot.

Canvasbacks on Lake Catahoula in the mornings and woodcock in the afternoons.

I grew up thereabouts. My Dad still lives in Jena and I have some acreage there.

Well I will say this. The lodge had a few other clients the first day and same the second last day was packed since season was closing. All had modern semi auto 12ga guns. That vh 12ga performed flawlessly as did the shells I shot.First couple shots were what the hell shots(my fault). Then I settled down and birds fell with no problems.Ducks were decoying well and shots were 20 to 40yds but were stone dead for the most part.
The guys in the lodge were fascinated with the gun and I suspect from the interest and conversations that next season will see a few more vintage guns at least in that lodge.

Glad you boys got into them, I don't think Catahoula ever really got much going, or at least my friends there didn't.

We were in Catahoula a couple years ago and didn't have much luck.Lots of hunters there and I suspect that amount of pressure on birds has a big impact.

I had some rio bismuth 1 1/8oz,#4 at 1350fps for the ducks and some Nice Shot 1 1/8oz #4, 1250fps both 2 3/4".Both worked well at knocking ducks down.I was actually very impressed.
Had some heavy shot classic's but didn't use them also some kent tungsten matrix.I didn't use either because the heavy shot was a little slow I felt and the kent was a little hot I felt.Heavy is 1150fps and kent is 1400fps.
I was shooting just some 20ga 7/8" #8's for the woodcock which worked fine.
