After hunting. Canned baby oysters, crackers and beer

Mike and Julia Franzen have been with us the last few days but left and are now enjoying the view from a mountain hilltop fire lookout tower for the night. Mike is going to write some Parker Pages articles.

Mike Franzen has been in new country for him and and shot Sharptail grouse for the first time. Julia got some photos of the dogs hard on point and the birds flushing.

We have hundreds of thousands of acres to hunt without seeing another hunter. I came across a cat kill of a big buck, hard for some folks to realize. Two hunters were mauled by grizzlies in the mountains the other day.

On Tuesday Bruce took us to the Diamond Butte Lookout. It's a lookout station perched atop a butte 4300 feet above sea level. No electric, no running water, no indoor plumbing. (Just like Jim Pasman's camp in NH). As far as you can see in every direction it's beautiful scenery. I was hoping for a clear night to see the stars and wasn't disappointed. This is a pic of Julia sitting out on the point with her camera. Big Sky is an understatement.

This was our first day here when it was just Bruce and I. Then a pic of a sharpie; they even let me shoot one once in a while. And another of Bruce and Bert during the cocktail hour yesterday. And a good one of a break during the heat of the day two days ago.

Great thread once again Bruce and gang ...its really neat to see things so different than what I'm used to,it gets the mind wandering.
I have a another trip to Arizona booked with Phil and we both can't wait ...I thought the last one would be it for me ,but fate had other plans.

Today's hunt on a gorgeous small ranch of only about 18,000 acres... The panorama is the view one of the owners has out of his picture window. The dogs love the tanks when it's this hot.

Another rough day in Montana. Morning hunt on a wide open ranch, then the afternoon in the Custer Nat. Forest just down the road from the lookout tower the Mike spent the night in. Naturally we never saw a bird until we were driving home through the high country and a flock came off the road and flew by us.
