Finally made it out today for the first time since the season opened on the 15th. 12 gauge DHE reproduction choked MOD/FULL shooting RST paper spreader shells. Only managed to find 1 grouse, which I shot behind twice. Woodcock doesn't open until the 24th so of course I ran into the mother lode of woodcocks. All in all a fun day, even with not much to shoot at.

Ouch! What did you hit?

A deer decided to run into the front fender of my truck. :banghead:

I had a deer run into my toyota while I was sitting still watching the doe standing right in front of me. The little buck killed himself stone dead. Got to be one of the strangest things I had ever seen.

Very nice looking gun, but is it missing one trigger? :)

You were lucky. The damage to your truck seems slight compared to the damage I have seen on other vehicles including my own that have been physically abused by deer.

I've been out 3 times now this season. 20 woodcock flushes and 4 grouse flushes.. And so far I've only shot 1 woodcock.. Not my best shooting. After 4 years of hunting with an O/U and never having hunted with a SXS, I can't seem to hit the broad side of a barn with this thing. Lots of season left though.

I used to have that problem too... Then I read Churchill's book.

If you haven't read it it will be a great help.

a simple question- does the Parker fit you? (there is a slight difference in fit for a SxS compared to an OU

it might be worth a trip to few big sheets of paper and testing the fit

put a one inch aim point on the paper and with the target 16 yards from your eye (not the muzzle)

mount and shoot (don't aim) as if it is a straight away bird

fire a couple rounds and measure the distance from the aim point to the center of the pattern

every inch off the aim point is a 1/16th of an inch off in the fit- so 4 inches is a 1/4 inch adjustment

below target is too much drop - above is of course too little
to the left calls for cast off

this is designed to bring the gun to point of aim- you can make adjustments if you like to the pattern a hair higher for rising birds by changing where you measure to

No; you saw the barrels off to 25", then you have a woodcock gun!

Might be finally starting to figure this thing out.

Very nice Kirk, I have yet to make it up for my first hunt of the season, my cabin in Gladwin is calling but the body isn't....:banghead: Hopefully in a couple of weeks I can start to chase grouse and hopefully not all of the woodcock have left Michigan.

Kirk, judging by that bird on the right you have unwittingly joined the ranks of the W.D.A. :biglaugh:

Nice shooting by the way!

Maybe we can get a pin made up. Like the doubles one

A profile of mr knight would look good on it

Then everybody would want the pin and the testimonial, and just think of the carnage it would promote

I had no doubt that you would recognize the reference though

For those unfamiliar with the WDA reference.....

That's where I generally hunt and where i shot these doodles. 3 of the birds are mine and 2 are my cousins. I shot 3 out of 5 which felt pretty good after a long 0 for streak. Their are definitely plenty of woodcock to be had, or at least their still was this past Saturday.
