Bill Janelle and I got out this past sat for a turkey hunt. First set up had 3 birds gobbling but had hens with them, after an hour with them they shut up and went off. Went to another spot and there were 4 birds in the field all were toms or jakes! Went way around the woods for a set up. Did a few calls with my box call and a few yelps with the mouth call, And the race was on. Bill "said here they come" 3 on a dead run to us! They came in like a 3 bird train. Bill had a shot at 25 yds but just as he shot the 1st bird went behind a small tree. At the shot they scattered and Bill's second shot was a dud. I shot 2 times and on the seconded shot, my bird went down flapping! The one I shot was a Jake, at 16 lbs, 3/8ths spurs and a 4 1/2 inch beard,( it acted like a big one) We both had 10 ga's Bills a NH and my a EH shooting 1 1/2 oz of 6's

Nice job guys, after a 2 1/2 hr calling session with a group of gobblers a couple weeks ago , a jake finally came into what I thought was good range. Time was running out on the day(noon), so a bird in hand, as they say.It was a jake also, and will probably go into my smoker this weekend. Probably bring some of it to Hausmann's. Hope to see you there
