Kenny Graft and I got together for a little post season dog training/hunt at a pheasant preserve about an hour away from each of us, Bullseye Hunting Preserve, just past Tappan Lake in eastern Ohio. Kenny was shooting his new Fox FE 16 ga and I carried the little O frame DHE 16 Parker. Kenny had his Gordon Setter, Ruby, and I brought all 3 setters, but was interested in mainly working young Fancy, who is in here first season. I do apologize for not taking many pictures, but was trying to handle the dog, and I dont muti-task well. We shot a dozen pheasants over the 2 dogs, with each doing a good job on handling their game. Fancy even started retrieving, and she will back also.
After finishing up, the preserve owner, Matt, noticed that I had 2 more dogs in the truck and suggested that I run them in the fields across from the lodge. He stated that he had not shot a bird all season, so we insisted that he grab his gun. I turned loose the veteran brace of Betty and her sire Shiner, and they were soon on point. We each shot a bird, and Matt killed a pheasant over Shiner, which turned out to be the last bird he pointed before he went suddenly downhill and died last week.
Kenny, it was great hunting with you and hope to see you at Hausmann's.
