Cleaning two VH's made the mistake of putting the wrong barrel on one of the actions. Obvious right away did not try to close the action all the way. Now it won't come off.

Any quick remedy ?

Cocking hook is engaged, and not allowing it to release?

Surgery of one form or another will be needed.

Though i usually do not recomend doing this, it is the easiest thing for you to try. If the large screw in the barrel lug holding the cocking in is fully exposed when open, then remove it and the barrels will lift off. Then leaving the hook loose in the frame.

If it is not exposed, then the trigger plate will have to come off the gun.

If the gun is cocked, you can use the old trick of dry firing. If the gun has an automatic safety, use a thin screwdriver or steel rod to activate the "trip". You can then fire the gun. If this doesn't work, you're back to Mr. Dudley's procedure.

The screw is not quite accessible, not a 32/inch too much but enough it can't be removed. Bill will try to activate the trip. See if that works.

Thanks guys.

No go. Was able to activate the trip take the safety off and drop the hammers, still won't come off and with the hammers down less movement available.

4 or 5 years ago bought a beater VH to learn how to take one apart/back together, simple not a complete strip. I can remove the trigger guard stock and floor plate without damage. If I do so is the cure fairly accessible from the bottom ?

Yes, once the plate is removed, you just need to push the hook away from the crank. You also habe to hold the crank back, so you almost need a 3rd hand. But you can get it freed up from there.

Thanks Brian & will have your excellent disassembly instructions in front of me when taking the stock and floor plate off.

It needs a good cleaning inside anyway time won't be wasted

Brian has an excellent article entitled "Unhooking" with illustrations, coming out in the Winter Issue of Parker Pages due to hit mailboxes around Thanksgiving or the following week.

It is a well-written instructional article and a great reference.

32 inch VH Barrels on my 30 inch VH by mistake.

Yesterday we agreed we would have a round of sporting clays in December, open to anybody, who has a 32 inch Straight Grip Parker. Could have put 5 on the field yesterday, No telling how many more if we shake the trees in Central Virginia

You only have too many Parkers when all your buds can't carry your coffin to your gravesite with you and all them in it! Congrats on getting your VH apart.
