Slipped across the border for an afternoon duck hunt on Saturday, things went smoothly....

Four mallards, a black, and a blackjack. Killed a double on mallards then a few minutes later a triple! A drake and hen with the first barrel then a black with the second. I never shot at a bird that I didn't connect. Wish I could shoot like that all the time....

Yeah. Doubles club coordinator take note. Destry needs a pin. Hopefully I will get a double on ducks this year

I thank you boys for suggesting a pin be sent to me. I got one several years ago for a double on geese, one is enough.

You need a new one for your new hat. Double the first time you went out with your new hat? It needs a pin.

That is true I suppose, this was the new Jones Caps first trip. Who runs the Doubles program? I might drop them a line.

In my humble opinion few hunting situations will ever be more pure than a double on decoying ducks - A double and a half...........

Mark I've got to agree, I can't imagine much that I like more.
I've done the triple with a double only a few times, and never before on mallards.
Once on greenwing teal, once on geese (hard to believe I know), and once on ringnecks.

Good shootin' DH. The only double I ever scored was on geese. Jumped a pair at about 30 yards with the canoe. As they struggled to get airborn I picked up the VH 12 loaded with a couple 1oz Black Cloud #5s. When they were up into ground (water surface) effect and striving to gain speed and altitude, sort of like one of Bruce's Heavies trying to get to thin air where it can thrive, I swung on the lead beak and let go, let the other catch up and did the same. Both dead on the water.

I have been blessed with more than my share of doubles on game birds. I have had numerous "willys" (2 birds with one shot) also - BUT I am still in serach of the elusive Double and a half or Double double
Good News is - the duck opener is tomorrow morning! - and I will be dreaming about one tonight :p
