Dove Hunting Spot

I had a favorite fishing hole that you had to walk about a mile to get to when I lived in Alaska. I made the mistake of taking the wrong person fishing there. It turned into a night mare after he told all his buddies and I had to haul out trash every time I went so just quit going.I have a dove spot that no one goes to except myself and grandson. It is not a big action spot but in a couple hours you can get 4 or 5 and that is what I like.It sits on a hill over looking the valley. Thomas

I understand your liking this spot !

But anymore from having to deal with my father 24/7 I'm more into a spot where I can kill 15 in about 90 minutes get out and get back .

If I didn't need to keep tabs on my pop I'd be more into the relaxed low octane shooting . Kinda what I did the first day this year I was sitting under a walnut tree about 120 yards from our house across the road in our neighbors pasture field right beside a chopped cornfield (I napped on and off the whole time shot twice I think) !

I know just what you mean Thomas.
In 1982 I invited a guy I thought was a good friend to my favorite place in this world. Over the years he just slowly took over, inviting his friends and family in. They were sometimes a bit abusive and disrespectful to our mutual hosts.
Call me naive - call me dumb - I guess I just didn't want to know the truth... I always kept the hope that he would see what he was doing to our friendship....
Two weeks ago, after months of my own internal turmoil, I told him he wasn't welcome there anymore. It was very hard for me to do... but a great weight seems to have been lifted.

I too have been a victim of friendship. A guy I used to shoot with quite a bit is a serious grouse hunter with good dogs, britts at the time, asked if he could go along with me to observe my setters. I took him to a favorite spot of mine where I never see another grouse hunter. Well, after this hunt I have seen him there on numerous occasions and he does not seem the least bit guilty about it. Well, never again!

I've come to the conclusion that my only true friends are my dogs. They never let me down. Of course, that is not true but at times it sure seems so.

Gary and Dean, I feel your pain as that same thing has happened to me, as Gary says, about the only one you can be sure of is your "Dog".... Pretty sad to say but it's true.

Possessive feelings on hunting and fishing spots can be tough on ones mind.
I have taken friends to spots that I've found in the past, only to be told by another friend the following season, of being taken to that same spot that by the first friend.
On the flipside I've been told by a sometime hunting partner that I couldn't go back to a spot on public land, that we both know, we found for the first time together.
Unfortunately I find myself hunting alone more of the time. But it saddens me because I enjoy seeing a hunting partner and his dogs have success in an area that we've shared, as much as I do enjoy having it to myself.
Spending a great day and hunting spot with someone who's company I enjoy, is far sweeter than keeping a spot only to myself.
Although sometimes I'm left with bitter feelings when I feel that trust has been abused.
I hate to say it, but there is some comfort in hearing of others having this same issue.

I took a "used to be" friend to a (sacred to me) mule deer honey hole up in Northern Nevada.
We arrived, and set up camp opening day eve. On day one, before 9 am, this so-called friend had two deer down. I put my tag on the extra deer, broke camp, and went home early.
There is, IMO, no better test of character, than a hunt.
