There is an older thread on this topic but I thought I would post this as a new update.

Thanks to Chris Dawe of Newfoundland Parker 82646 16 gauge GH on a 0 frame has been brought back from a bad straight grip stock conversion and about 9 barrel dents were raised! Chris is not only a gunsmith, stockmaker, craftsman and an honest man but I consider him a friend and would welcome him in my home or afield any time.

82646 is in the book as a hammerless, pistol grip, no extra w/26" barrels. It retains the original Damascus barrels choked Cyl./Mod, has 2 9/16 chambers and is stamped 3lb 2oz. Back in the day it was modified to a straight grip, the stock was cut to 12 7/8" with a pad and spacer making it 14". At some point a cool set of after market ejectors were added.

82646 is nothing particularly special but I was very happy to purchase it and now I am happy to show the gun sporting its "new used" butt stock and refinish.

The letter states the gun shipped 11/2/1896 to CW Hackett in St Pail Min. Special request for trigger pull as light as can and chokes Cyl./Mod. Price was $80 and it left at 6 lbs. 7 oz.

This gun is going to look good next to my dog and a few Hun's this fall.

Gorgeous piece of wood and very well done. It looks like wood that would have been used in that era.

Exceptionally nice stock work and checkering... and a good choice of blanks.

Chris is without a doubt a great stocker, He is doing the mattie gun stock work and for end also coordinating the engraving of the gun, when the engraving is finished it will come back to Chris for fitting and over seeing the French Graying, This is a work that has taken soon to be two years, but I am patient, and I know it will be a gun to be handed down to my heirs, Maybe Chris has a photo of the stock and for end he can show every one? gary

Brian and guys , thanks for the kind words ....Gary its been a long project thats tested my patience on a daily basis ,unfortunately its not like I can walk down the street and talk to the engraver ,I do know he's got quite a bit done as per my last conversation with him ... patience is surely a virtue .

So is that the same piece of wood with its pistol grip added back?

No sir the original stock will be well served in a wood burner. The stock is "new" to this gun, it was a "used" original Parker stock that was reshaped and fit to this gun. You will see in the picture before the completed work the stock in the process of being fit.

I'm still confused then....when you call it a 'new used' butt. was it a leftover or?

Take off from a Remington era single trigger gun ,had to add an extension under the pad to get Brian the length he wanted, filled in the single trigger inlet and re-inlet that ,raked out the grip ,changed the angle of the grip cap and changed the nose of the comb to get it as close as possible to the proper style as the donor wood allowed .
