Hunting buggies ? ...I have a Ranger ,for the easy spots and the garden although I did use it to drag 500 lbs of Moose down over a little mountain this past Fall,it was no fun at all ,my cousin and brother hanging off the corners to try and keep me from rolling ...I won't do it again ,but we had no choice other than to eat it in there .
The Argo is the only one that's "man " enough to make to where the Ptarmigan are ,it's a horrible rough 4-5 hour trip ,the machine loaded to the gills, and three bird dogs trying to push you out ,what this machine has done would absolutely amaze,it's slow and very rough but very reliable and can haul a massive amount of gear.

Chris do you use it with tracks? I've be looking at a used one with only a 130 hours on it. Right now I use a Kaw. Mule which has be great (slow) for what we do but the ground clearance suck :eek:I've high centered it a few times, now I carry a Hilo jack just in case

Well here's mine. It may look a little cityfied but believe me this ain't city.So far it has gone everywhere I have needed to go. I live in an agricultural area of cattle, chicken farming, timber land and country estates. My place joins 777 acres of timber land. I am now retired and have just gotten into turkey hunting this year. It has served me well so far .With a set of larger wheels with water in them on the rear it has hauled three deer and two people out of a pretty deep hollow. It was actually given to me but if I had known that we would enjoy it as much as we do I would have bought one a long time ago.I have some great neighbors that own larger tracts. They seem to understand my need to kill something. Gerald.
PS. I will bet we are going to see a great variety.

I'm kinda partial to my Kawasaki 750 Brute Force . This is the second of these I've had . This one is the same as the other I had except for fuel injection , which I like a bit better on cold mornings .

It's my buddy's rig ,and yes we have used it with tracks ...it's just as capable as a snowmobile with them on ,these can get high centered as well ... you need a good winch on this because if you do get it stuck there is no pushing it out ...period !.
There's a learning curve to driving one, if all you've ever driven was an ATV , but it don't take long to get the hang of it ,always do your maintenance and carry spare drive belts (don't ask how I know ).
if you hunt in ugly terrain ,this IS the machine.

I have an eight wheel tracked Argo I use down here in the wetlands. This thing will go anywhere! I purchased mine with about 450 hours on it and had to rebuild the drive train as that is the drive train's useful life. I am considering selling it but know if I do will need it next duck season

I thought it might be easy to get high centered  I have a chance to buy a 98 with 130 hours on it with tracks for between $7500 and $8000, is that a buy or a maybe..?

Here's one you won't see everyday.Deck is 8' off the ground and tower seats are 13' off.Five ton running gear and chevy 350 for power.Goes way faster than I like to go 8' off the ground.
We do some bird hunting off of it occasionally when water is high looking for snipe.

I bet the dogs don't like it much when you go through high water. I can't imagine what you're up against when you get stuck. When my Country Squire gets stuck, I'm only five feet off the road.

All dogs get a mask and snorkel.Just joking water rarely gets mid way up the tires. But whole ranch or area can be under water at times.
It is 4 wheel drive but it will get stuck in certain areas. When it does get stuck it takes more than a couple trucks or another buggy to pull it out.

I know the one my buddy has cost on the high side of 20 grand when new with all the bell's and whistles ...I think for the hours and tracks ,depending on physical condition 7500.00 don't sound bad .

I'd like to upgrade my Kawasaki Brute Force 750 to a new one with power assisted steering !
I'd like to upgrade my Chevy S-10 4x4 crewcab to a new Chevy Silverado 3/4 ton diesel 4x4 crew cab .
And last but not least I'd like to add one of those Bass Pro Shop camo jon boat deals with side console steering and about a 50 HP outboard for use on the Eastern Shore of Maryland .
But I don't want much :rotf:

Some of these things look like they came out of a Mad Max movie. This is one of my favorite threads. I was going to post a pic of my Jeep Cherokee but after seeing these awesome battle wagons she's not quite ready to be called "Hunting Buggy". However she is evolving and when complete I'll resurrect this thread and post pics

That's a good looking Cherokee, Mike! Keep us posted. Both of my 4WD trucks are Chevy, but I've always had a soft spot for Jeep. My first vehicle ever was a 1968 CJ-5 with an OHC four cylinder that I traded my Wheelhorse garden tractor to get! Loved that rig.

I wouldn't trade any two gas powered buggies for the one I have, the "ultimate hunting machine", aka Bad Boy. I've tried them all, and once you go silent in the woods, you'll never go back to "noise and smell" vehicles. Room for four, or two hunters and a pile of gear. If you need more, hook on a trailer and pull 1000 lb of deer and stuff. Lots of power and hunt all week before a recharge.

Here is just one of the many hunting situations I've encountered that made this electric UTV shine for me... this spring I was hunting wild turkey on a 150 acre farm that I did not have a lot of time to scout. A couple turkeys gobbled, close to sunrise that morning, but I found myself at the wrong end of the farm and several hundred yards away, with only 10 or 15 minutes of "gray light" left until it would be too late to move at all. I jumped back on the Bad Boy and sped toward the gobbling birds through the hay fields, which I could hear gobbling as I raced toward them. I stopped about 150 yards from their estimated location, behind a small hill near a large pasture. Crawled to the top and stabbed a lone hen decoy in the ground and slid off to the side, hunkered down behind a small bush and tried to calm down. After waiting close to a half hour I started calling, very little and softly. Two gobblers immediately sounded off and the waiting game began. I gave one more soft call a few minutes later and they both came back with a loud gobble telling me they were much closer. I leveled off my Remington 1893 28 gauge and cocked the side lever. Both long beards stepped into view at 35 yards, I picked one out and the 28 did the rest. I may not have had an opportunity that morning, possibly, if I wasn't able to close the gap like I did.

Hi Charlie,
I use Winchester high brass 1 oz of #6 out of this tight choked Remington single barrel. Patterns well out to 45 yards. This 1893 is a B grade with solid rib, double ivory beads and checkered stock and forearm. It is the only B grade and only 28 gauge 1893 I have ever run across in 30 years or so of searching. What a blast to hunt with!

Hi Gerald,
Yes, not everyone needs a trail ready Bad Boy. If you hunt on fairly dry farm land with just rolling hills, fields and pastures, a raised golf cart is fine or an electric utuilty grounds vehicle like the ones used on golf courses with a cargo bed on the back. I used a raised golf cart for four years, that did me well, and only cost $3000, like new. They are for sale everywhere, especially in the fall. Four wheel drive is rarely needed in a hunting vehicle, unless you drive in a swampy or snowy hunting terrain. Just buy something QUIET and you will have the right hunting vehicle
