View Full Version : How did those screws get all messed up ???

I've been drooling over a decent 16 gauge GH recently. Better yet, it features the amount oif drop at comb that I shoot well...

Only problem is this: The two (forward-most) screws on the bottom of the reciever do not have their slots indexed properly. (I can't see the screw right in front of the trigger guard in the pics...) Also, the screw that retains the hinge pin has it's slot at a goofy angle. (All slots look good, just not indexed)

The questions is this: How much does any of this matter ?

How does one get the hinge-pin screw out of "index ?" I can understand the other two screws - perhaps they are merely in the wrong holes...

I worry about collectibility & resale value, so I don't want to buy something that will only appeal to the shooter.

How difficult is it to get the screws indexed ? Are replacement screws the only real option ? (...and how much might that cost ?!!?)

It's a ca. 1900 GH 16, with 28 damascus barrels in decent shape, nice bore, nice wood, and hints of case color. They're asking $3900.

Should I worry about these screws, or do I have a screw loose ?

Thanks !

John

John,
If the screws slots are good putting them in the correct allignment is easy. If you really want the gun I would not let that stop you.

That's kind of a premium price to pay for a gun that's obviously been taken apart by an amatuer and put back together without much of an attempt to do it right. I'd be cautious about making certain everything works perfectly.

Alas, I have just been informed that it's already sold !
