I use and assortment of hulls.
While shooting Skeet, every so often I get an underpowered shell. I've been told I'm using the wrong wad. My recipe is 14 Grs Unique, Nobel primers, and Claybuster CB5034-28HS wads. Previously I increased the powder charge to present level-no improvement.
If the wad is the problem (I've been told to use a Federal wad) what is the design difference requiring a different wad???? Any other resolutions to the issue??

I believe the taper of the hull varies by manufacturer. When I reload the Win HS hull I use the HS wads, same when using the Rem STS it's Rem wads. I have never had a problem with any shell and I shot registered skeet for many years. Match your wad to the hull and your problems should go away.

An "underpowered" shell usually means a short charge of powder or a tipped wad. Some loaders are prone to tipping wads if the operator is not careful.

Are the squib loads from one specific hull?

I wasn't sure how to quote hs hulls get hs wads. The only problem I had was not measuring my powder often enough to make sure I was getting that the right drop. I was under.

Good luck in your reloading.
