....for grouse hunting! I found this ca1911 Durston Special in my local pawnshop and felt the uncontrollable urge to rescue it. It is a 12 gauge with 30 inch fluid steel barrels. It is my 4th Syracuse gun and actually the best condition, overall. The other three (2 Gs and an H)had been run through the mill to one degree or another and showed signs of 'gunsmith' tampering. This DS was covered in dried up oil and crud on the exterior. The interior was interesting, though! The entire interior was packed with brown, waxy stuff that I assumed was dried up grease. I even found it packed inside of the little plunger that holds the toplever open. Whoever owned it kept it well oiled. The head of the stock was quite saturated and required lots of acetone soaking.

Good for you. I rescued an I Grade myself which is very similar to yours. It is my first Lefever and won't be the last

They are unique guns, Mills! My first G Grade was a ca1896 gun that I wished I had kept. Guns actually marked 'I' are not common from what I understand.

I found this on the Lefever forum. It probably came from Dr. Hause's archives.
