That's exactly what it is, Parker guns sometimes have the "N" designation in front of the serial number which simply means "Number".

Discussed here before...
The upswept right vertical of the stylized "N" on the trigger guard intersects a small "o" creating a "No" which is the abbreviation of the word "Number" as in Serial Number.

What year range and grades are they Destry?
I'm curious simply because I haven't seen any like those you describe. I'm always open to learning new things (a lotta fun for this old dog)
