Well this evening I went back to the same place I was at Labor Day monday evening !

I was just about ready to start getting down and a deer walked out beneath me and I dusted it with my old Parker GH 16 gauge damascus gun shooting my handloaded shells with 10 of the #1 Buck pellets , Remington SP-16 wad and 21 grains of Unique . At the boom of the gun the deer folded up as I aimed at the base of the head and since it was less then 10 yards from the base of the tree well you get the picture . When I fired I heard another one behind me walking around so I laid the Parker down and picked up my circa 2001 Marlin 444 loaded with the Mountain Molds Mt Sourdough 433-425GC bullet I had cast and pushed with 37 grains of RL-7 . Another one stepped out above me by about 15 yards and I drilled her behind the shoulder . She went 10 yards and fell back in a small ravine !

Nice fat ones too. They'll make for some fine grilling...

Thanks !

We've been hunting since mid july .

We have three places until the end of september . One for bear and the other two for deer . So far my friend and I have taken 11 deer and a bear .

We got 6 deer so far this week !

Alot of folks around here do the DCP stuff at night with lights and some of them waste the deer etc .

I don't have a problem with others using a light although I don't really care for it . I do however have a problem with the folks that shoot the deer now and throw them away or leave them to rot . I feel if one kills the animal they should atleast use it or give it to someone who will .

If they keep coming by as close as these last two and the one monday I think I could kill the deer with #6 birdshot LOL's !

I have a pair of 12's I might try to take deer with one did a VH and the others a VHE . I've killed some dove with one of them and shot a bit of trap with both . They're both 30" F&F . Need to get some Remington SP-12 wads and I can load some buckshot loads for these two and the Philly Sterlingworth .

Could you explain "damage control" in Virginia? We have too many deer here in Fauquier County but don't shoot until the season arrives even though there is plenty of reason to shoot the deer all year long. David

Hmmmmm David Hamilton ?

I have a friend in Madison County with the same name . Owns a heating and air conditioning buisness .

Oh back to the question Damage Control in our state is for farmers or howeowners with problems from wildlife . In our case the two farms we DCP for deer they're bothering the soy beans and corn crops . In the place we DCP hunt for bear they're teraing up an apple and peach orchard .

I have friends who get DC permits in the Charlottesville area in some of what some people call the more ritzie sub divisions . But generally those guys are achery only or archery and sub sonic suppressed rifles .

If I'm not mistaken Faquier is in or right on the fringe of the Chronic Waste Disease area of Virginia .

David if I'm not mistaken Faquier is also in whats called one of the Urban deer season areas of Virginia for antlerless only .

Generally the early archery season for the Urban areas starts about now and then after the gun season is over the first saturday in January the late Urban antlerless archesy season starts in and runs until March I think .

About 5 years now I've been hunting from mid to late july until late january and let me just say it gets a little old after awhile .

If I night hunted and used red lights and thermal imaging I could probably get more . But what we do seems a little more ethical to me and to be honest sitting at night waiting for deer just doesn't intrest me that much .

The first couple times we went this year we both had thermal imaging and red lights . I wasn't comfortable with it and didn't care for it . And to be honest I never saw anything when I was trying that stuff !

This summer I've found optimum time to be 18:00 to 19:45 . So i try and be where I wanna be by 17:00 .
