I would expect to see such escutcheons on a high grade such as yours.

To clarify my above statement for those who think I may have said something other than what I typed, I will simply say - I sure wouldn't expect to see such a fine example of craftsmanship on anything but the highest grade(s). I've never seen such an elaborate escutcheon!

Wayne, this appears to be another example that is close in style to your gun. This being an 1876 Grade 6 Lifter.

Thanks Randy. It appears they were used on a few Grade 6 guns built in the mid 1870s.
