These document's confirm that the 1/2 frame was in fact a Meriden development. But the drop in manufacturing and the subsequent sale if the company did not warrent the need to push forward much innovation or change.

The general consensus is that any and all of the 1/2 frames and barrel sets for them were made in Meriden, but not actually used until Remington Illion production, after they ran out of 1 frame parts and they needed a substitution for the lightweight 12g. Since we know that Remington never actually made any frames in Illion. They just had whatever was made in Meriden.

One will also notice that features shown on the drawing like the lightening cuts were not actually implemented on the 1/2 frames guns.
