I don't remember the exact issue, but it was one of the first year issues. I bid on several over a year before I paid $400 for one.
Keep in mind that this was in the period when they had just ceased publication and there were quite a few people trying to complete their sets. There was a demand for the rare issues, but I suspect that there was a really finite limit to the number of people willing to shell out that kind of money. As time went on, most complete sets I saw went for something in that range. In retrospect I should have just purchased a complete set. I ended up getting (numerically) more than a complete set in order to get the issues I needed. The good thing was that due to buying bulk collections I got a lot of duplicate like new issues to replace some of the ratty and well used copies I had. I had three or four copies to pull from. For the final pass I separated everything chronologically and put together the final keeper set using the best copy of each issue.
I have a rather catholic collection of both shotguns (both singles and doubles) and rifles (particularly single shots and combo variants) so the DGJ along with their later inclusion of single shot rifles is a major source of info for me.
