I was waiting to the new PP to arrive - and I'll be damned - there it was :)  An official announcement!  What am I talking about?  Just this....

This Forum is MOVING.  That's right.  It is going to a new forum, format, features, icons, albums, multiple upload capabilities - lala - whatever...

In short....

We are moving to:

http://parkerguns.org/

and the new forums are at:

http://parkerguns.org/forums/

In June - all your browsers will land THERE - rather than HERE...

In "long"....

This Forum while it was great to get a Forum on line 5 years ago - but, it is really rather silly in features and capability.  If you belong to another forum - you know what I mean.  Or ask Kevin M. or a bunch of others who have had a simple request and the admins go through hoops to "make it happen".

So - what can you do??

First - IF YOU HAVE PRIVATE MESSAGES YOU WANT TO KEEP PRIVATE MESSAGES FROM THIS FORUM - PLEASE COPY AND PASTE THEM into a document on your computer, OK? (after many months and years of pulling my hair out trying to get the messages uploaded to the new site - PMs "ain't" gon'na happen)...

Second - please go here:

http://parkerguns.org/forums/

And REGISTER...  There is a forum on the new site to post to is you need help, OK?

Third...  the new forum/site has a bunch of new features - so poke around a bit..  As well - on the opening page (http://parkerguns.org/) you'll also see some new links/features - like Remington Repair codes (THANKS ROBIN!)...

Fourth....

Have fun, OK?  If anyone has any problem with getting on-line with the new format - or questions - please post here or there, OK?

Fifth...  It is our intent to make the PGCA Forum & Website on the internet the best of breed - and one that others are measured to when they open/upgrade.  I think we have achieved that - and more is coming...  So hang tight.  After this "upgrade" - the rest should be seemless.

Thanks for reading,

John

I hope that the change to a new format does not cause a loss of the interesting and valuable information located in hundreds if not thousands of previous posts archived here in the current/okd forum.  Currently using the search feature one can find a wealth of information on grades, options, W.A. King's testimony to Congress etc. etc.  It would be a real shame IMO to lose many of those written thoughts.  Yes there is a great deal of drivel and good natured banter but I am sure there is information contained in the archive of these posts that exists no where else (including The Parker Story and Parker Pages)  If we are the custodians of Parker shotgun information every effort should be kept to maintain it all (besides, we all know future gnerations who might read this stuff are not likely to be as smart as we are collectively :)).  Seriously, I hope it is not lost with the change.

Hi Peter!

OK- I'll ask you.  You be "me" for a moment, OK?

You have a choice.  Here they are.  You have exactly two (2) options...

Choice 1:  Yep - - we can continue to use and post to the present site.  No problem.  In fact - this site has a LOT of archived info.  It's great.  It's what it is all about.  BUT....

You knew there was a "but" - right?

Choice 1) If this server (yep - where you are reading this post) goes offline - or the database corrupts - or if there is a misplaced software handler - well - then we are back at "post #1"  No archives.  No history.  No pictures.  No users.

In other words - you'll be making the "first post" - as this system has no backups, no recovery, no pictures, no threads, no "users", no...  Well you get the idea...  And nope - IT IS NOT FOR LACK OF TRYING.

Choice 2)  We upgrade and I capture the existing HTML as an Archive as posts, pictures, threads, etc.  And - it's backed-up daily "just in case" - just in case - the server takes a "belly flop".

Your choice would be??

And yep - at the same time - folks can actually "use" the new site with pictures, new forums and features...

You choose - and let me know what you decide, OK?

And yep - I agree with you.  To lose everything would be incomprehensible.  Egro - the change to a real forum/database/backup..

;)

Tried to register as directed.  For some reason it doesn't like my password.  Requested a password reset/hint.  Nothing to date.  What am I missing?

Hey John,  you must be a politician because after reading your post twice I still don't know the answer; are we losing the ability to search and read previous posts in this/old forum?  If yes that is a shame whether that should happen now or in the future and for whatever reason.  Don't take it personal and if the answer is yes I hope the old forum can somehow "live" somwhere in computerland and be searched and read as desired.  I am sure it can be done,  you are really good at this stuff, make it happen

Oh ya on the me being you for a minute,  being as thin as you would be a plus, having that lovely trap grun of your great grand daddy a big plus, having your shooting skills not such a plus   I'll have to think about it and get back to you later LOL.

John, I can understand having my shooting skills woud not be for you as you seem much more comfortable (probably really used to it) watching from the rear the pack than running with the big dogs :D

PS. Do you know if Nev-R-Dull is safe to use on pewter state championship trophies, oh never mind I forgot you wouldn't have any experience with that :D

Pete I have never witnessed your skills with a Parker BUT I have seen Johns and I would rather have his VHE 410 than his shooting skills or lack thereof and his computer skills combined;)

I have minimum shooting skills but still better than John and almost no computer skills:D.

I have nothing to say....

Except....

Both of you have absolutely NO IDEA what you are talking about....

You know I like both of you..  Or maybe just one of you..  Well - actually neither of you after both of your comments... Butttttt - that's not the point.  The point is:

Consider yourselves banned.  Or not.  Or you should be...

Let me think about it - as I can out shoot both of you together or individually, as it were...

"Sew their"..

(Or "so there" or whatever.. ;)

Both of you are off my Christmas Card list - and if I had a list, neither of you would get a card.  Like Dean and Larry.  They didn't get a card either...

Just so ya' know...

;)

Hey John, in the above, are you suggesting that this current forum could be loaded as an archive to the new website in order to be read and researched but not posted to?

And yep - I agree with you.  To lose everything would be incomprehensible.  Egro - the change to a real forum/database/backup..
Or do we start with "post #1" on the new website/forum and have no reference to all that the old (current) forum contains? In plain English, do we lose forever all that the current forum contains or can you move it "capture" (your word) it all to be accessed, for reading and research, on the new forum?  Best Regards, Dean

Thanks John..

Honestly - so far in this entire thread - your post is the only one that makes sense..  To wit...

I have no idea what Anderson is talking about..??  Heck - after chatting with him earlier this week - I worry about him...  As for that guy by the name of Peter Lester?  I have absolutely NO IDEA what his point is/was - 'cept - well - he wears "big boots" shooting skeet.  Why you might ask - I have no idea....

As for the other replies - I'm still trying to figure out what Dean said? (Dean "CONTROL & C = COPY/CONTROL & V = PASTE"..??)  Anyway...

All we need is Suponski to chime in...

Oh wait - he just did..

Dammit.....

John - you are on my Christmas Card list for your post and supprt..

The rest of you??

Not so much....

;)

Carry on....

John

John - What would you do if (in the unlikely circumstance) that Destry offered you his Jones hat?
