I would run like my hair is on fire......
I've seen his hats.... And - I've seen his hats walk a few yards all by themselves... Nope - not on his head - I mean really - they appeared to have a life of their own..??
BUT - if it was a choice between Bruce's Pheasant hat and a Destry hat - hell - I'd go with Destry's hat...
I have some pride...
Not a lot, mind you....
But some pride....

Best to ya' John!

John, I had registered last November and it welcomed me back and allowed a post so I guess I'm cool. By the way, there is more than one Lester so when you start hacking people off your Christmas list don't cut the wrong one. I'm the poor one who can't hit the broad side of a barn from the inside. Hey Jack!
You are good with me - and still on my (short) Christmas Card list - no problem!!!... And - sounds like you shoot like I do? Maybe we should get together and find that barn with a BIG SIDE..??
Also - Dean....
OK - I'll show you what I mean about the archive (NOTE!!!! this is a QUICK "hack and whack" at some basic code... Remember, no one has this database - so, I haft'a convert all the pages to PHP, HTML and so not to lose attachment pictures - recode the PHP files to render.. On top of that - I need to re-index the catalogs for the "Search" function to work on my servers...). So much for the disclaimer as YMMV, OK??
OK - go to this link, and scroll down the page to find the forum "Archive".. Click on that forum, OK? (BTW - I'm still building the archive catalog in background..)..

I'm trying to get there, but it might be tight - as I'll be in Haiti to dedicate another school we've built there for 300+ kids and the entire village and locals (well 150KM area?) are turning out .?? I dun'no what the flights would be yet? I'm thinking if I flew into JFK (rather than Miami) from Port-au-Prince - then that might work??
Anyway - if I do get there - it would be kind'a neat!

John you might as well go hide in Hati as we know you can't shoot woth a damn and any excuse is better than no excuse .
As far as the X-Mass card goes it probably wouldn't get here anyway and if it did you can't spell worth a damn either. Your convertaing things to PHP, HTML, YMMV OK? NO! English man, English . PHP- Parker Heel Plate, HTML-Hammerless Trojan Metal Locks, YMMV- Youth Model Made Vulcan???? .

John,
Re: Archive Search on new site.
I have looked at the archive on the new site, but was disappointed to find that it does not have a search function. Not so useful if someone wants to look up an old thread. Is it possible to allow a search? I tried a simple google search for "parker christmas card" to see if this would get me back to this thread, but that does not seem to work. Otherwise to preserve the wisdom in the archive it might to be necessary to re-visit all 5000+ threads and build an index matched to a set of subjects - how to determine if a set of barrels has been cut = Cut Barrels - how to cock ejector hammers = Cocking Ejectors - Turn Screws/Screwdrivers - Stock Finishing and so forth.
Some members have logged or bookmarked some of these most informative threads, so if before the old site is sent totally to archive, it would be easy enough for the members to use the old search tool and send in the titles of the best ones and then set up an index page in the archive section. What do you think?
Also, I don't recall mentioning or asking this before, but is it possible to use a spell checker right in the posting function of the new site?

Hey Bob!
Ummm..???? I'm not quite - exactly sure where you landed on the new site, nor where you navigated to - nor what you did? But - I can assure you....
The archives do - in fact - have a search function?
As my post above states - it is work in progress - and even Dean made it work to his satisfaction (and Rich made fun of - and deservedly so... Who knows what PHP is aside from Rich?? )
Anyway - if you are using Google Search -- it ain't gon'na happen until the new site goes live. At that point - the google seach bots will follow the links to deliver them. In the meantime - PGCA is running two sites. This one and the new one..
Make sense? If not - let me know, OK??
Best to you!

John, that took me to this page - look at it very carefully and your will not find a search button - maybe I've missed it, but I've look three times - the Search term entry box and Search button we are used to seeing in the upper right area of the header is not there where we usually also find My Account, Members, Calendar, Help, and Home - Bob

Hey Bob!!!
GREAT STEP THROUGH - Thank you!!!
OK - now I see what you are saying... My sincerest thanks for posting it - and the time it took on your end. Great step through...
OK - here is what is happening....
As you know (and as i told Dean) in the post above - a whacked the code together on my end. You see - the search depends on an IIS search and a catalog in that directory. For right now - it searches all HTML documents without exclusion. So - if you "search" on a "word" that included in a "topic title" - it will show those as well. Given the search indicies - if POSTS in that thread throw it in higher ranking - then it moves UP in the search hits..??
Now - remember - I am searching on all HTML and PHP files, OK? So - let's say you search:
Damascus
You'll see BOTH a Forum THREAD directory and the Posts..?? But - the "returns" from the Search will "highlight" the most favored hits (both Forum view and post view)...
Anyway - you nailed it.. And my thanks!! Yep - I'm aware that the server is throwing up threads/posts - but, I still need to write the code for exclusions for IIS Index Server withe the FORM code on "Search" to show only relevant posts rather than "forum threads" - if you see what I mean?? (I know you do - you pulled the "forum view )
My intent on throwing up the preliminary code earlier was to let Dean know that his gazillion posts wouldn't be forever lost...
Anyway - my thanks again!!!!

And now you have my wheels turning.. No promises... But..??
What would happen (to your post) - if I put up ANOTHER search form in your last pic in that page (remember - these are captured rather than dynamic, OK? So the coding needs to be dynamic on static pages - and well, is something cool (but a coding challenge!)) and "refine your search" button to go deeper into the Forum/posts??
So - what I mean.. You get the page you got, OK?
At the top - you see something like:
"I didn't find what I want - Search this area of the archives for:" (text box)
Interesting challenge..??
Let me know what you think of this before I "go off the diving platform" and give it a whirl from coding, OK???
Neat idea!! Thanks for posting it!!!
