I was on the calendar committee and urged them to do something that would have "legs" rather than just a calendar that was almost simply that. Murphy offered his Woodduck poster for reproduction but I was howled down as it was going to be too expensive.

I'm sure we've got a pile of what was produced left laying around somewhere that we'll never sell. If we had frameable woodduck calendars around that were a close repro of the originals I think we'd sell them over time but that's not what we've got obviously.

Bruce, thanks again for quick responses.  I never got an e-mail from you with pictures, I had some problems with my e-mail when I opened the e-mail you sent telling me the picture didn't go through...my computer locked up and I had to shut all down and start all over again.  Sorry.

So, to the topic of the catalog.  I never considered that the cover might be missing.  The quote about 50 years is on page 22 so I'm guessing the catalog is one with the flying ducks.  Am I understanding you correctly?

Part of the reason I am requesting the information is because I am a avid gun enthusiast, but my area of interest is in martial arms, specifically, U.S. arms of the 20th century.  I was hoping that I might be able to find an individual who is a Parker enthusiast who is interested in the book and will give it a good home for a fair price.

David, I think brother Murphy's suggestion would be the best. I kinda doubted the market for a catalog without the cover but Murph thinks it could still be good. So advertise as he suggested and list on EBay. Or put it on our sale listing and see what happens. Good luck and sorry its missing the cover.

Yes, I think its the 1913 Flying Ducks, Geese whatever they are catalog.

Or you could get into Parkers and be glad you kept it. That wouldn't be so bad.

Dean, no complaints from me. I've met some wonderful people and had great experiences in the PGCA. From one worn gun made someplace back east that I had never heard of and signing up for an small organization just starting in Virginia that had a newsletter , its turned into an avocation. I wouldn't have missed it for the world.

When it comes to items of particular interest in the collectors world, the definition of "Good Paper" can mean many things to many people... Never underestimate the historical value and desirability of original gun related paper, as sometimes it helps provide the lost answers to important gun history research... The surviving Parker records are a perfect example of "Good" old paper...

Best, CSL

Chris, thanks for the cover of the Clown. I've never seen the inside of one of these, only the cover illustration. Is there anything inside that is new, interesting or otherwise not available in other Parker catalogs/brochures?

I like these catalogs but for paper my attraction is more interest than financial committment. I know some high amounts have been spent.

David, I gave away a pristine Winchester made 1917 US Enfield 30-06 to the WWI Memorial in Kansas City. They were glad to have it. It was collector quality and I and used it once hog hunting down in Oklahoma. Maybe a couple boxes of ammo had been run through it.

Bruce, The Parker Story describes the inside of a Clown to be identical to some other pocket catalog.  I don't recall exactly which catalog it was.  I would be in favor of the "hat idea" for a PGCA paper item.  Fundraiser, no, but a fun item for the annual meeting, yes.  In place of the pheasant head, we could have a forward facing A-1 Special .410.

Bill, run with it. If it involves paper and the PGCA, you won't get me near it, well except maybe at the PGCA Great Plains records depository and conference center.

On the Clown catalog, it looks like the appeal of it is the cover, have I got that right? If correct, why not just take a high quality photo of the cover from which you could make small wall mount pictures?  You could probably do that yourself without involving the PGCA. I'd buy several and hang it next to the Muderlak repro squirrel poster at home, the lake house, maybe even add to the artwork at the prairie conference center.

PS, Bill Bolyard just sent me a link where I could do just that. So, I'll have a Clown artwork on the wall thanks to CSL.

Are you referring to the "low house" on your personal skeet field?  I had never thought of the dual utility possibilities for a skeet house.  By the way, I have a great "high house" story, but I'm afraid I can't tell it here.  I may give it to Destry for his book of Parker anecdotes.

Bill Bolyard and I were even talking about doing a little calendar between us. A fellow I know put together a very nice spiral bound calendar with nice home photography of high quality flyfishing reels like Dingley, Hardy, Bogdan, etc, a different picture for each month and a bunch of us  bought that and I have that at the lake. Was inexpensive, no committee involved, no nothing. Guess he made about 25 for his friends. About the size of the DU calendar but better paper. Bolyard has a line on how that could be done. About 10 years ago Pete Day made up a poster calendar of his Parkers and dogs also and gave them to his friends for Christmas and he did that at the local photo developers.

So I was thinking about having a few small blowups of this Clown cover made just for myself and a few friends.

Twelve months of Clowns?  Tell you what I'll do, Bruce.  Ringling Brothers is in town as we speak.  One of Linda's friends' sons is "A Clown" with RB.  Give me a couple of days and I'll get you some Clown pictures.  Of course, the market will be limited.  Maybe we could sell them for $760.00 each and break even after we sell twenty five of them.  Ringling Brothers tickets are expensive in D.C.  By the way, Bruce, who are these "friends"?

Bruce, I have brought this up before but you,or whoever, could take some nice close up of some high grade Parkers and make a large poster with a montage of various guns and I think it would sell. I make picture frames and you would be surprised ,or not, how much a nice matting job and a complimentary frame will enhance an already wonderful image.I have made original frames for gun posters and I have never failed to sell them when I displayed them at a show.I usually also make a easel for display as the framed pictures are all large.I think it would be a nice way to  make money for the PGCA. I have a selfish motive as I want a nice large poster of a bunch of Parkers for my own wall.

This has been an entertaining thread to read from beginning to end, I've busted a gut laughing more than once... Murph is in rare form this week and must be eating his Wheaties... Thanks for the chuckle's Bill, I owe you a cold beverage in the future...
If things don't work out at the big RB circus Clown photo shoot, here's a good start for your calendar project...;)

Best, CSL

Hello Bob Delk, I think that is a terrific idea. Anything to advance Parkers and create interest.  We could get some gun photos together, Bill Bolyard, whom you met is a great guy and wants to do something and has some similar ideas. The 2010 Pheasant Fest is in Des Moines, not too far from you, and that could offer some opportunities.  Now when we sell anything in Iowa we have sales tax to deal with and for raffle tickets I now have to get dept of rev. permission and so I end up with a lot of behind the scenes paperwork to create and file.

Bob, thanks for the proposal. I know you do nice wood work.

Call Bill and talk, 989 369 9600. Bill also has a relationship ( no, not that kind) with a very skilled woman photographer who also exhibited in Madison and will be at Des Moines, so there could be some opportunities there. They are talking about doing some Parker shots and her work is Ansel Adams type first rate.
