I've changed my mind about a setter. I'm going to get a Sussex spaniel and go on the Westminister show circuit. Between shows I figure with all the hunting blood the dog has, he'll do fine in those tall grass prairies across the plains. And maybe I can meet some new friends among the other show dog handlers, don't know much about those fellows.
See how fast I'm learning about breeds other than a pointer. I didn't even know there was such a critter as a Sussex spaniel. I figure they'll do well with the coyotes. Two years ago in Zortman, Montana, I was advised not to let the pointer run around outside at night because a big tom cougar had been hanging around.

Bruce,
Good thing you kept your Pitbull inside, Shortstop would have made short work of that cougar.

Mr. Day, if you are looking for a pointer in the bent of a Labrador-Pit Bull cross, look at German Wirehairs. They point, trail and retrieve in water, and will give a cougar a run for his money. If my little Wirehair doesn't outlive me, I will have another to replace her. Of course, I don't know if you could live with the "Ugly Dog" nickname that Wirehairs have attained. Bill, this is more along the lines of what I am looking for. Something that is a good bird dog. Something that can handle a rough grouse ( Bonsas horridus). Attached Image (viewed 141 times):

Bruce
How about one of these Ball snatching spaniels, If the Birdhunting thing doesn't work out at least you can work on your tennis game.

Heres a Picture of Shortstop hunting in Kansas, I think Bruce goes a little overboard with the Cactus and snake thing.

Bruce: I think I could make you a better set of teeth for that dog. We could sharpen some of the cusp on the teeth and put some stainess steel caps and maybe a couple of gold ones in the front and you could even have your jeweler place a couple of diamonds on the crowns. Man, what a show dog.
