Bruce: Thanks for all the pictures. Curious about the "try gun" What is the story behind that?? I very much like the engraving on Mr. Browning's AH. I do shoot wild pheasants and until a couple season's back, my partner was a GSP (TAZ) complete with original tail, as the two on the left side of the AH frame. Cheers, Jack
Rooster in the grass (stiff tail, not as straight as on the AH)

After a flush (tail still stiff)

After the shooting TAZ thinks "Can't believe he missed such an easy shot. He really shouldn't be out here without the Parker. Oh well. Gotta keep searchin' searchin' (relaxed tail)

Now fellows, we were counting on that darned John Dunkle to attend and help and he cancelled out. He missed a great show, over 20,000 people and a great time. There were interesting exhibits. Since John couldn't attend amd missed out, we thought we would bring the show to him. John, my friend, you should soon be receiving materials from these vendors because they know you are interested.
And fellows, John will soon be the area distributor and sales person for this wonderful line of products:

And John, one more matter. We saved a pheasant disguise hat for you. Out west, we Great Plains ( or Great Pains Coordinator as John printed on my PGCA business card) hunters, wear western hats with a pheasant disguise. So I have this for you John for your next trip out. Attached Image (viewed 278 times):

Jack, I am not expert on all details of Parker try guns, but I know there are 15 of them, they were sent out to major PArker exhibitions and used by top salesmen and there are good articles about them in the Parker Story and various issues of the Parker PAges. They are fully adjustable for all fit parameters so that a buyer could have a gun made to order.
Bill, we had 20,255 through, a bunch of new members and many took membership apps with them. I hardly did anything at the raffle and membership table. That was mostly all due to Allan , Tom and Ed Morgan. We did amazingly well. Every time I or Charlie or other core help would sit down, we'd get pulled off to talk to somebody, so many members and people interested in Parkers coming by.
I had been thinking about a little help for Shortstop, my ten year Elhew pointer who is wearing down because he gets hunted so hard. Zoom Dog gave me a bunch of joint meds, and fellows I went over to the dark side. I placed an order on a Llewellin setter puppy, Houdini and Lynndale breeding, female, supposedy pretty hot and a bird finding machine. Pups are due in March and I drive to Minn to pick it up in April. Those who have hunted with me know that Shortstop is starting to look and limp around like a bull rider who has been bucked off too many times.
Other members who came by , at least that I know of, included Fred Blumenreich, Dr Jack Brandabur and Bob Delk. Many thanks to Bob who brought me a beautiful stock blank that will go on a butchered stock CHE 16, with proper skeleton butt plate of course.
A couple people asked me where they might find an 8ga. I have no private sources but Jack Puglisi has several for sale. I know of no others. Last edited on Thu Feb 12th, 2009 01:18 pm by Bruce Day

Hey, isn't that Tony Stewart the NASCAR driver that Allan is gently persuading to buy a raffle ticket?

Last year at St Paul, Bud Grant of the Vikings spent a lot of time hanging around. Parkers have always attracted people who want something nice.
Next years Pheasant Fest will be in Des Moines at the end of Feb. Three years ago, when we started this, Greg Dershem, Charlie Herzog and I endured a blizzard and heavy snow in Des Moines and still attendence was way high. This year, we had a lot of help from stalwart PGCA members and temps were mild.

Bruce, you mentioned that the Browing AH is owned by the PGCA. What other artifacts does the PGCA own? Inquiring minds would like to know. The AH looks like a restock, possibly by Remington?
Great pictures BTW!

Bruce: I spent the week end thinking about you guys particulary when I was looking at an old two barrel Parker. From all the fun every one is having I will have to start getting envolved more. The gun that I was looking at was the 12ga. D4 made in 1898. The numbers match but the short barrel (20") is worn and the tubes are pitted pretty bad. The 30" barrels are in good shape, stock is ok but well used. We will see if the guy comes around. He seems to think he has a real treasure. Thanks for all the pictures.

Bruce,
Thanks for that post it was a pleasure to see. I believe it was two years ago I was scheduled to go to Kansas and was going to leave early for the Pheasant Phest but my invitation to hunt in Kansas got cancelled by the ice storm problems and I never made it. Now I at least got a chance to see what I misssed.
I hope your new dog proves to be a good one for you.

I was in desperate need of a Parker fix and I sure got it at the Pheasant Fest. It was really nice to meet Bruce and mr. Herzog and see some wonderful guns. I was under the gun time-wise and did not get to spend very much time looking and chatting but I can assure you my looking was intense! Most of my gun buddies are long gone and I haven't talked Parkers with anyone in several years that knew what I was so enthused about.Getting a chance to see all the different guages and handle the 8 bore was a real treat.
Bruce, be sure and post some pictures when you get the C 16 stocked.I'm glad to be of some help when it comes to keeping a fine gun in service and looking good.

The CHE 16 is a friend's gun who has asked me for my help to get the job done right so I suppose I can work with the stockmaker to get a correct configuration for the year and correct finish, I'm thinking diamond gloss polyurethane, and we'll get a nice white line skeleton butt plate on it. No, in fact it is a fine gun, and will be returned to look the way it should at six inches or ten feet. We need to undo the damage done by a previous restoration expert shop that didn't know to put drop points on a C and thought a 3" thick recoil pad looked fine. Thankfully the frame is not warped. Gentlemen,
I just arrived home from Madison. What a hoot it was to spend time with all the Guys. We had a publisher from a Wisconson Outdoor Magazine right across the Isle from us that sat in disbelief for days at the art at which the parker salesmen convinced the unsuspecting public to purchase our raffle tickets. Mr Swansons motto was was how much money do you have, and how soon can I have it.... The Booth was always attended with PCGA Members and the public. There were times that we had to step out of the booth to allow room for the onlookers. I am sure the other vendors wished they had the same response.
I want to make it clear right now that Mr Day is not going over to the dark side..He is finally after all these years seeing the light. For the last ten years he has been hunting over a dog called Short Stop that he says is a Elhew Pointer, But has a disposition of a Pitbull. Questionable.......
I also want to thank Charlies Herzog for adopting me and giving me the opprotunity to purchase the sweet little 16ga D grade underlifter hammergun, providing he is not buried with it. What a time we had cant wait until next year.

Bruce you asked if they liked the water. I nthe off season Judy will point Bluegills and Trout. My problem is getting them to flush high enough for a shot. I have found that 8 shot works the best.

Fred,
That looks like a Bass pond.. If you ever need help trying to give those fish a work out pulling on a line let me KNOW. What size shot do you use on the bass? Do you have a problem getting them to flush high enough for a shot?

Bill, This pond is on about 160 acres of reclaimed land of the old Ashland County land fill, now a County park known as Byers Woods. It became a "park" mainly through the efforts our local PF chapter. For the past two years our chapter has held its annual youth hunt at the park. Ring was a bird finder for a number of young hunters for these events. In this case he found the bird, I flushed it and the darned bird took off for toward pond; and, the young gunner shot it over the pond. We kidded the young gunner about him having to swim for the bird; but, Ring went for the fetch and brought it back to me. This was one of the rare times I had my camera with me.
