Don,
I enjoy a good bourbon but I am not famillar with "Weller's 107 Antique Bourbon ". What can you tell me about this brand of bourbon? My bourbon of choice here of late has been Makers Mark. I just filled up the decanter last night.
Im sure Destry wouldn't approve since he's a decated JD man.

Just cause I'm a Tennessee Squire doesn't mean I just drink Jack Daniels. Hell I'll drink anything, one of my favorites is Early Times. Ask Fred P. about the last time we both buried our noses in that jug.

I highly recommend "Michter's American Whiskey" distilled to colonial recipes if you are looking for something a bit (but not too...) different in the boubon/rye line. Traditional ryes are the "new vodka" according to the NYT and on this point I agree with them. Destry will remember this delightful booze as the contents of the "Tree Top Tall" crystal decanter in my 3 bottle tantalus along with "Brooklyn Handicap" and "Auld Grouse Butt" during the evening at the Brampton Inn episode of DH's Great Eastern Incursion...atleast I hope he remembers Last edited on Wed Apr 4th, 2007 05:53 pm by Don Kaas

Don,
I'm still looking for that Joe Blackburn reference in Buckingham.
I do remember well that little liquor cabinet and it's even mentioned in my upcoming tale for Parker Pages. *wink*

A three decanter English oak tantalus similar to the one in question. Regretfully this piece appears to have lost its original matching decanters...Aren't old things nice? Attached Image (viewed 234 times):

You boys have GOT to try Van Winkle's old-time sour mash bourbon - I don't even like bourbon and we got into a couple of jugs big time a few years ago up in a remote corner of northern New Hampshire after a hard day in the bush and few birds to show for it. Sure smoothed out the hills and valleys around old Lake Francis! KBM

A thread like this is why our BBS is so great. I do some posting over on the LC Smith BBS occasionally and just recently created a huge uproar over a post where I jokingly described something I call "The Pabst Blue Ribbon Proof House". Had a thread like this appeared over there "The Deacon" and "The Sarge" would have been all over it like white on rice.

eBay is the place to find a tantalus. Only buy one with the original decanters. It's too hard to find matching ones that fit the unit.
Kevin's from Philly-not even South Philly. He should be quoting Lee Andrews and the Hearts and drinking Fleischman's Whiskey with an Ortliebs chaser not Flatt and Scruggs and bourbon.

Well here's some lyrics from a good old Tennessee Ernie Ford tune called "Shotgun Boogie" that at least have some Philadelphia connotations:
Well, I met pretty gal she was tall and thin
I asked her what she had, she said: "A FOX .410"
I looked her up and down and said: "Boy, this is love."
So we headed for the brush to shoot a big fat Dove (*)
Shot-gun Boogie (* * * *) boy the feathers flew ...
Look out Mr. Dove when she draws a bead on you.Last edited on Wed Apr 4th, 2007 08:12 pm by Destry Hoffard

Am too; try 824 So. 56th St. on for size - my primordial leanings are much more towards Felix Cavalieri and the Young Rascals, Bob and Justine, and ice-cold Rhinegold in the convenient beach-mouthed 'Chug-A-Mug.' My latent "Matewan" tendencies were 'outed' as I discovered early American-made ('hardware store) doubles, then 'utility guns', then Parkers, along with the soppy, down-home 'tales of the olden days' vignettes you had to listen to while consuming the handmade whiskeys offered in advance of the stories. It's a long way from Cobb's Creek Parkway to Buenos Aires and Edinborough, but I made it in grand style thanks to my Philly 'mean streets' upbringing, coupled with a reckless disregard for spare cash. Destry;
Perhaps you had better not talk too loud about your ability to get into the bourbon as you left half of a drink of Makers Mark that you poured yourself, the other evening at my home. The other half that you did drink put your BUTT to sleep for two and a half hours.
I was with Bob Owen today and asked him to see if he could get us into the famous Winnous Point club to photograph the club house before they tear it down, said he would make phone calls on our behalf.
Also there is a Southern Comfort type female that I will introduce you to when ever you can get away some afternoon for you to work your magic charms upon and she has the advantage of being caucasion.
