I feel like a bastard step child as I have been left out so far and my DGJ has not arrived either.

Roger use this time wisely and get some bubble wrap for the Old Clunker. You need to put your best foot forward at Deep River...NO CARDBOARD;).

Mine arrived on the 30th, (20837) right in line with Bill's and a whole lot earlier than in the past.

Nice job guys!

I'm not a DGJ subscriber and have been calling all over trying to find a copy for sale at the various magazine venues in the Ann Arbor area but with no luck.

First time something I wrote appears between the covers of my favorite magazine and I can't even find a copy to send to Mama. *Gloom*

Yeah I know, I should just pay my money so they'd send it to me. But I just love the looks I get from the ultra liberal sales counter girls when I buy my copy at Barnes & Noble.

Austin I am in hog heaven as my PP and DGJ came in the noon mail. I have already handed out kudos to Austin as he was kind enough to give me a proof to enjoy over in Balitmore. Again a great job!

I read Destry's article in the DGJ immediately so I could pick on him about his grammer, content, and wording but have failed to find any reason to be critical. The luckey dog.

Roger, I'll try to find something for you.  We have to keep Destry on his toes.  By the way, Destry, I understand you have received an invitation to our pigeon club outing next weekend.  Consider yourself honored.  Hope you can make it.

If anybody has the new Double Gun Journal in hand there's an interview with Johnson in it and hopefully a sidebar by yours truly. Anybody seen it yet?

Destry -

Mine arrived yesterday. I really enjoyed the into sidebar you did and Ed's interview with Peter J. as well. Nicely done. BTW, have you heard from and can you give me a lat/long or a Loran fix on EDM at present? Thanks, KBM

Bill: I did get an invite and I was honored for certain. But I just can't make it unfortunately. With taking time off for the Southern at the end of the month I just can't get away.

Kevin: I had email from Ed just over a week ago and they were still in the Bahamas. He'd said earlier in the winter that they were going to Turks & Caicos to check out the kids new fishing camp so they'd be staying later than usual. But now it's sounding like they've changed their mind and might make the Southern. I'll keep you posted on his movements. *wink*

Parker Pages arrived at 54501 today April 1...folded, spindled, but thankfully not mutilated.  For several years, I have been trying to train the postal delivery person to quit folding my PP and DGJ and to PLEASE (if you must fold mail) fold ALL my junk mail instead...to no avail.  Some habits are hard to break...

Heather (Llewellen Setter) and Rip (curly haired Golden Retriever and sometimes pointing dog) thoroughly enjoyed  the Pheasant Pfest article which I read aloud...while they relaxed on MY sofa.  Heather asked if it would be OK to go again this Fall...

Couple of corrections...p20 lower picture...Paul Narlesky has been mysteriously transformed into Pete Kappas...however either is equally capable of finger pointing and rendering a similar, unbiased opinion about a plastic Benelli machine gun and it's (un)suitability for field use. The gun pictured failed to cycle more than once.  Here I will insert my own opinion...any gun that repeatedly fails to function will seldom wear out through overuse...regardless of what shells are used!  Life is too short to own an ugly gun...Chris...please buy a real gun!

p21 bottom left col.  The original stock on the 16ga 0 frame was 13 7/8" LOP and had 3 1/2" Drop at heel.  I had no choice but to restock to 15 1/2" LOP with much less drop.  Initial result was a butt heavy (I resemble that remark...thanks Destry) gun. I hollowed the stock and extension and got the wt down to 5lb 12oz and it now balances ever so slightly weight forward.  Got to remember that the "hinge pin" on a Parker is further from the breech than most other boxlocks...

Thoroughly enjoyed reading the entire issue... To all who contributed...THANK YOU...great work.

Destry I know Field Sport in Traverse City carries DGJ. You could probably call the DGJ people in West Jordan and have them send you a copy of this issue. I can call around here for you if you wish.

Pete, I know, it got backward and was my error. I am not sure who is insulted more, Pete or Paul.

Looking forward to year and more Parkers, pheasants ,pfriends and pfun in So Dak.

Just got back from wild hog hunting in the thickets along the Oklahoma /Texas border. we had 9 hunters and ended with 7 hogs. I shot two with one shot from about 75 yards, through the skull of one and into the  rear of the other . Then spent a while tracking a wounded hog through the thickets in the dark. Came at me and I got lucky with a second head shot from 15 feet.

Now that would be a hoot...load up the Parkers with slugs and go after these wild hogs. However, even more dangerous are the ferel hefty waitresses.

Bruce, I've been thinking about trying to take a deer with my old GHE with the replacement 20ga Titanic barrels if I get it back from its supreme makeover in time for the Vermont deer season. I'll have to check its POI before attempting to fire slugs at game though as I want to know exactly ehere it will consistently hit with each barrel. This should put a new dimension into my deer hunting.

Bruce: Tell you what, I'll come along next time and take care of the waitresses for you. Thick through the hips truck stop serving girls are one of my specialties.

What about buckshot for them wild hogs??? I'll bet a 10 gauge load of OO would lay one flat.

Dean and Destry, the difficulty is that most of our old Parkers have tight chokes and that a slug load is a very heavy load. If a person had a 12ga 2 frame with cut barrels or open chokes, I suspect it would work very well.   These hogs take some power to knock down .  Handgun loads, even a 44 Mag in a handgun or a rifle, just don't have enough energy. A .243 is too light. A 25-06 or higher , well placed, will kill them but they are tough and will come after you. Getting caught on the ground by a 450 pounder( hog, that is) will ruin your day.

I used my old WWI Winchester/Enfield 30-06 Mod 1917 which is clunky at best then borrowed a friend's Mod 70 .270. That was a fine gun. So n ow in the market for a Mod 70 in .270. Preferably pre-64.

Bruce, I would say getting caught on the ground by 450 pounds of anything would ruin my day, or night for that matter.

I've got to agree, that's a little hefty for a truck stop waitress in particular.

I should write up the story of old Jeff Long getting chased out of the corn field by a big mama hog after he'd whacked one of her little ones with his gun stock.

Problem is, it's not Parker Pages material as none of us was shooting a Parker at the time.

Hell at the time I'd only ever seen one Parker in my whole life. I was shooting a Stevens 311, at least it was a double barrel.
