Event
One - Qualifying Round for Team Selection:
Friday noon - Saturday 2:00 PM
- Registration
will take place inside the LCSCA/PGCA Exhibition
Tent at the Dove field as has been our custom;
however for our 2013 Challenge Event, there will
be ONLY ONE registration table that will be
manned by a representative from each
organization.
In order to avoid open shooting slots and
waste invaluable shooting opportunities at the
5-stand field, LCSCA and PGCA members will shoot
on the same squad/s, with the organization
represented by each participant noted on the
registration form.
- In 2012, the Event
One qualifier was expanded so that each
participant would shoot 60
targets (two (2)
5-stand rounds of thirty (30) targets each) to
be shot back-to-back on
separate 5-stand layouts; and that venue will be retained
for 2013. Participants will be assigned to a squad based on the order of
their registration at the table, so if a member
wishes to shoot with a certain partner/s, or as an
entire squad; be sure to register jointly for
the event. Participants may register to represent only
one organization; Registration will begin at
9:AM Friday morning, and shall continue thru
approximately 12:00 Noon Saturday. Early
registration is STRONGLY encouraged in order to
keep the shoot progressing in an orderly manner.
On each of the two days for Event One,
signups will be concluded for that day when the
last squad of shooters has finished shooting
Event One of the Challenge Event; so don’t
wait until the last minute to sign up and risk
missing the cut-off.
- An Event One Entry fee of $10 will be collected at the
time of registration and verification of
Membership; and all Event One participants will
receive a custom designed pin to commutate their
participation in the 2013 Challenge Event.
All Challenge entry fees will be donated
to a charitable cause selected by the management
of Deep River Sporting Clays in appreciation of
their willingness, and graciousness in hosting
the Challenge Event.
- Each
participant of the Challenge Event will be
responsible for their own Target fees of
$15.00/30-target round, with said fees paid
directly to the 5-stand vendor at the Dove Field
shooting venues (5-stand tickets may also be
purchased in advance at the Deep River Club
House). However,
DO NOT
purchase an advance ticket and go directly to
the 5-stand with the intent to register and
shoot; ALL participants must be registered and
squadded at the registration table inside the
LCSCA/PGCA tent.
- When
members register for Event One, they will be
squadded and assigned a specific shooting time;
.and shooters are encouraged to be at the Dove
Field venue 30 minutes prior to their scheduled
shooting time, as it is possible an alternative
time slot may not be available if a scheduled
time slot were missed. And remember, PGCA and
LCSCA members can/will be shooting as part of a
combined squad based on registration order; or
upon request at the time of registration.
- Practice
shooting is available at the Dove Field 5-stand
venue, and at an Open 5-Stand venue before Event
One begins. Practice round slots are extremely
limited, and only available on a
first-come-first serve basis; but ALL 5-stand
traps will be
will be reset prior to the commencement
of Event One competition at 12:00 PM on Friday,
at which time practice rounds will no longer be
an option. Again,
and due to limited availability, shooters
purchasing tickets for practice rounds may only
sign up for ONE ROUND AT A TIME, and may not
place their name in rotation for another
practice round until they have completed
shooting their first time through the course.
Practice round targets are paid directly
to the vendor, or purchased at the Deep River
office and are not included in the $10 entry
fee.
- Target
presentation for Event One will be 60
TARGETS fired on TWO SEPARATE 30 TARGET 5-STAND
fields. The targets will be fired as two (2)
Report Pairs and one (1) True Pair at each of
the 5-Stands.
As shooters complete 5-Stand one, they
will immediately proceed to 5-Stand two, so be
prepared with sufficient ammunition as there
will not be a scheduled delay between the two
5-Stands. Each
5-stand layout will offer different target
presentations to the shooter; and by increasing
the numbers of targets thrown, a shooter who
started a bit slow during the first half of
Event One will have the opportunity to recover
during the second portion of the venue.
- During each
30-target venue, shooters are allowed one gun
malfunction with the opportunity to re-shoot any
targets lost. Referee will verify malfunction,
while the shooter maintains control of the gun
in a safe direction. Any further malfunctions
will result in targets scored as “Lost”; and
the decision of the referee is final in all
instances. Note:
Having your gun on “SAFE” does not qualify
as a malfunction.
Event
Two - Challenge Cup Final Round:
3:30 PM Saturday
-
At the
conclusion of Event One, representatives from
the L.C.S.C.A. and P.G.C.A. will select from
their team of shooters the 10 Challenge Cup Team
members to represent their respective
Associations; and the 10 shooters selected from
each Association will be those shooters who have
earned that distinction by shooting the highest
number of broken targets from the 60 target
presentation during Event One. Should the Event
One results for either team reveal a tie score
for the tenth and final
team slot; the following tie-breaker rule
will be utilized:
the final team slot will be
determined by the reverse long-run method
(the highest number of broken targets scored from last target
fired at in the event).
-
Event Two
Participants must report to the registration
tent after Event One in order to determine their
status for Event Two
Final scores will be tabulated by
approximately 2:30PM on Saturday, and the names
of Challenge Team qualifiers will be posted at
that time. Alternate Challenge Team members
(those three members of each organization with
the next highest Event One scores) will be
notified to remain on stand-by in the event that
any one of the 10 qualified Team members cannot
be located prior to the commencement of Event
Two.
-
All Challenge
Team members will be provided with commemorative
caps, and will wear these hats during the
competition so that each team can be
identified.
-
Event Two, the Challenge Cup round, will begin at approximately
3:30PM Saturday afternoon. Shooters who are on
each Team should report to the sign-up table at
the 5-Stand venue by 3:00 for squadding
assignments, and team strategy sessions.
-
A coin toss
will determine which team will begin the initial
competition round. 5-man squads from each team
will alternate taking the field for the
remainder of the event.
-
The course of
fire for Event Two will be 30 TARGETS, fired as
two Report Pairs and one True Pair. Target
presentations will be completely reconfigured
prior to the beginning of Event Two so that the
“playing field” is leveled for each team.
-
The winning
Challenge Cup team will be that team breaking
the highest number of targets out of total
possible score of 300.
-
In
the event of a tie team score, the winner will
be determined by a shoot-off (a shoot-off from
station three between the shooter from each team
with the highest combined score in Event One and
Event 2). Ties in shooter scores for the Top Gun
award will be settled in the same fashion; while
ties for all other individual shooter awards
will be broken by using the reverse long streak
rule noted above.
Awards
*Youth shooters can also qualify for the 5
adult awards*
AWARDS DETERMINATIONS
In the event of any tie(s), the
representatives for each association will confer to
determine the procedure for determining the final
rankings. Conditions permitting, a shoot-off will be
conducted immediately after Event Two to settle the
ranking. It is the responsibility of all competitors
to determine if they are involved in the shoot-off;
and any qualifying shooter not present for a
shoot-off will forfeit his claim to the contested
award. It is strongly suggested that all 20
competitors in Event Two stand by at the shooting
venue at the conclusion of the event to determine if
they are affected. If conditions preclude a
shoot-off, then ties will be resolved with the
reverse long run of broken targets from the last
target fired in Event Two.
AWARDS
SCHEDULE
-
The
Challenge Cup trophy and individual awards will
be presented immediately after the results for
Event Two are finalized; with the location for trophy presentation being at the LCSCA and PGCA tent. The
Challenge Cup trophy will be presented to the
designated representative of the winning team.
The winning Association is responsible for
engraving their Association and year on the Cup.
There will also be a non-traveling permanent
award for the winning association.
-
ndividual
awards will be presented to the Champion,
Runner-Up, 3rd and 4th
place shooters, based on their combined score
for Event One and Event Two.
-
Awards
for High Lady and Youth will be determined by
the score in Event One. In the event of a tie,
the tie breaker rule will be used. IF the Event
One participants advance to Event Two, the
combined score from both events will be
used.

Hammer
Gun Challenge Event Sunday Morning; 8:30 AM Start
- Registration will take place inside the LCSCA/PGCA Exhibition Tent
at the Dove field as has been our custom;
however, ONLY ONE registration table, manned by
representative from both organization, will be
available. LCSCA
and PGCA members can/will shoot/qualify on the
same/mixed squads, with the organization
represented by each participant noted on the
registration form at the time of sign-up.
Participants will be assigned to a squad
based on the order of their registration at the
table, so if you wish to shoot with a partner/s,
or as a squad be sure to sign up appropriately.
Again, participants must register to represent
only one organization; and squadding and
registration shall commence Friday morning,
simultaneously with Challenge Event sign-ups,
and continue until the beginning of the Hammer
Gun Challenge Sunday morning; the final day of
the Southern Side x Side.
All participants are STRONGLY encouraged
to register EARLY, as signups will conclude as
the last squad finishes shooting.
- All
Hammer Gun Challenge participants will pay an
entry fee of $10 at registration and
verification of Membership status; and all
proceeds from those entry fees will be equally
divided between the treasuries of the LCSCA and
the PGCA.
- Hammer
Gun Challenge target fees/5-stand tickets
($15.00/30 target round in 2012) may be paid
directly to the shooting venue operator of the
“Dove Field”; or purchased in advance at the
Deep River operations office.
- Participants
will be squadded at registration for their
approximate shooting time; and the first squad
will begin shooting at 8:30 AM.
Participants should be at the Dove Field
venue 30 minutes prior to their scheduled
shooting time; otherwise risk an alternative
time slot not being available.
- Practice
shooting will be available (but limited by time
constraints) at the Dove Field 5-stand venue.
Practice rounds are always available on a
first-come-first served basis until the traps
are reset for the Hammer Gun Challenge Event. Shooting
practice will also be available, on a first

5-stand at the dove field all day Friday and
Saturday; but PLEASE NOTE that this alternate
venue is available to ALL Southern S X S

ROUND AT A TIME and may not place their
name in rotation for another practice round

(1) True Pair at each station on the 5-Stand

once the Challenge Cup event has been completed,
so that no shooter will have an advantage from
shooting the Challenge Event the day before.
- Participants
are allowed one gun malfunction during the event
with the opportunity to re-shoot any targets
lost. Referees
will verify any malfunction while the shooter
maintains control of the gun in a safe
direction; and his decision is final. Any
further malfunctions will result in targets
scored as “Lost”; and failing to cock a gun
prior to calling for the target/s does
not qualify as a malfunction.
- The winning Hammer Gun team will be
determined by totaling the scores of the top 10
shooters representing each organization; the
team with the highest combined score then being
declared the winner of the Hammer Gun Challenge.
In the Event of a tie between these
Teams, the scores of the 11th place
shooters for each Association will be compared
to determine the winning Team. If
the Teams are still tied, the scores of the 12th
place shooters will determine the winning Team;
and so on until the tie is broken.
TIES FOR HIGH GUN AWARDS
The Hammer Gun (TOP GUN) Award is
presented to the shooter with the highest score in
the Hammer Gun Challenge Event, regardless of
which Team they represented. In the event of a
tie/s, representatives for each organization will
confer to determine the procedure for determining
the tie/s breaker. Conditions permitting, a
shoot-off will be conducted immediately after the
event at station three to settle a tie/s.
Representatives from both the LCSCA and
PGCA will confer with the 5-Stand operator to
determine the course of fire for any shoot-off;
with the understanding that it is the
responsibility of each participant to determine if
he/she will be involved in the shoot-off.
Each participant is strongly encouraged to
wait for final Hammer Gun Challenge results if
they believe there is a possibility they could be
participating in a tie-breaker shoot-off. In
the event weather conditions are such that a
shoot-off is not feasible, tie/s will be resolved
using the reverse long run of broken targets
counted from the last target fired.
Ties for the Runner-Up/Second Place award
will be resolved based on the results of a
shoot-off; and should a shoot-off be required,
said shoot off shall be held at station three.
Representatives from both the LCSCA and
PGCA will confer with the 5-Stand operator to
determine the course of fire.
In the event time limitations or weather
conditions are such that a shoot-off is not
feasible, tie/s will be resolved using the reverse
long run of broken targets as counted from the
last target fired.
