Default removing bluing

I have just picked up a nice 16Ga VH, that at some point in the past had the action blued. While it was a nice job, I would prefer not to have it that way. Is there anything that will remove the bluing without abrasion?

Thanks.

Mr. Nelon:
Go to Brownells. Get some stuff called "Steel White." To use it however, the frame must be stripped and immersed.

Plain old Apple Cider Vinegar will do it just as well. drop the whole receiver in a pan, covering it completely. Usually a few hours will do it, but in about 2 hours, a Q-Tip will start to remove it.

Without seeming overly nosey did the gun you acquired come from a dealer in Orange VA ?

That gun came from the same person I got a GH 12 and a Grade 2 10 gauge hammer gun.

When I was in the grocery store this afternoon I got a small bottle of "apple cider vinegar" .

After reading about using it for blueing removal I wanted to give it a try on a piece of blued gun barrel .

I will give it a whirl at the shop tomorrow !

I use toilet bowl cleaner and a cotton ball. Wear rubber gloves and it'll just wipe the blue right off. Rinse with water and dry; done. I use this method taking guns down to the "white" before I hand engrave them, there's always a degree of metal work to be done to obtain a suitable canvas.
