Default Max recuperating

I've discussed Max's American Field/US Complete field trial and hunting exploits here before, but recently he's been diagnosed with cancer. He had a Lipoma on his knee which when removed and biopsied turned out to be a low garden mass cell tumor. Following this knee surgery a more thorough ultrasound showed he had a small nodule on his spleen so he underwent a splenectomy to remove it, the knee area was also reopened to remove margin tissue around the original infected area and take liver samples as a precaution, all to be biopsied. After the 3rd day of recuperating he was ready to go back out to the field, but he's only been leash walked since his operation. Hopefully we'll have the biopsy report from the splenectomy and liver by the end of the week. All in all, he's feeling really good, and though he won't field trial this fall he'll be ready to hunt the north woods come October.

PS - If you have a very active dog like Max, it sure helps to have canine health insurance to help cover the bills. His policy pays better than mine.

I'm glad to see he's feeling well. I hope nothing but the best for you both.

I have had the great pleasure of hunting with Tom and Max. Max is a fine setter and works the field like the pro that he is.

Dean, Max is 7 years old and doing well. Had him grouse hunting at the annual NY RGS Hunt last week. He’s also been local woodcock and pheasant/quail hunting at Crane WMA here on the Cape. The week after he was cleared to resume normal field activities he took second place in a field trial in NH with 6 broke finds, but I think his field trial activities are soon coming to an end. It’s hard to keep a good dog down.

Not to hijack the thread, but who do you use for canine health insurance?

Tom and I hunted pheasants this past Sunday at Markover in Danielson, CT. 300 acres of terrific upland coverts. We ran Max and Sophie, my setter together. Max, God bless him, hunted hard and was absolutely a joy to watch him locate and hold point on numerous pheasants. Both setters were a joy to see in the field and hunt over. Max is a very special setter.
