Question Serial number 123XXX

Over the years I have seen a reluctance by some members to post full serial numbers of guns. On this forum it is common for people to post full numbers and ask questions about original configuration and that seems OK.

I don't see a problem posting full serial numbers, am I wrong?

Whats the thoughts on this? Based on what I learn here I'll add something to our FAQ section ..... maybe.

If the gun is stolen, not a good idea. Some people, even Parker owners, are happy buying guns at low prices from the trunks of decrepit cars in parking lots at gunshows from people they do not know.

Some people think that the secret police somewhere are monitoring all the gun talk sites and writing down serial numbers and someday they will get a knock on the door in the night.

I don't happen to believe that. Nor do I believe that there is any real likelihood that my guns are stolen.

I too suspect something is wrong by not providing the whole serial number.
However, one person provided on this site the serial number, pictures and a long story how the 16 Ga. VHE Meridian/Illion gun was inherited from an uncle. The gun was stolen, so you never know.
