10 gauge component availability

I'm coming down to my last bag or so of SP10 wads, where the next one will come from or when or how much is the question. Someone said Remington will be selling them as a component again when their current shortages are caught up. Ok? So I decided to e-mail Claybuster Wads and see if they'd be interested in duplicating the SP10 wad. What the heck they make everything else. I'm hoping to hear what they say.

I emailed them a few months back about making a knockoff of the SP-10 and SP-8 wads . After about a week they replied that they didn’t anticipate making either but they’d keep the suggestion . Word on the street is whoever bought Remington ammunition has the intention of resuming production of the SP-10 but they don’t plan on making the SP-8 .

Well I heard back from the product specialist thanking me for my interest in Claybuster. He said they get requests for different products every year but they do not plan on adding any wads to the lineup. However, they will add my request to the list. Wonder how long the list has to be before they move on it?

Have a cousin in the injection molding business and when MEC stopped making steel shot wads i asked him about how it was done. At that time a nearby company was running wads for Remington and he was friendly with the owners. They rent machine hours and use the molds that they are sent. These molds are VERY costly, to the tune of over $ 100,000 for a 30 item mold. The cost of a mold today would be double that. Each cavity is numbered so that if a defect develops they can tell where the problem is. Checked a bag of SP 10 and the highest number i found was 24 meaning the mold has 24 or more cavities. These are also water cooled adding to the complexity of them and cost.
Claybuster would be looking at a very substantial start up cost and would have to gauge what the volumn of sales would be to justify it.

That is quite an investment. At what the wholesale price of a wad is, it would take more than a little time to recoup the cost of the mold. Thank you for the explanation.

What is the difference between sp-8 and sp-10 wads?, And which is
the better one to use in 2 7/8'' cases?

One is an 8 gauge wad and the other a 10 gauge wad, both were made by Remington prior to the bankruptcy.

Think about this .......................

A 10 would fit a 10 gauge and an 8 would fit an 8 gauge .

Since we were talking about ''10ga.'' reloading, I taught they were both 10ga.
wads. One for light loads, and one for heavy loads.
