I live in Cypress TX. (west of Houston). The barrels are spec steel. I assume the barrels were blued steel and the receiver was not color case hardened?
I will upload pictures when I learn how to do it! |

Yes the barrels were rust blued and the frame was originally color case-hardened.

Wow! How lucky are yoy to have an original GHE 20 gauge Skeet gun!!
I don't think anyone modified that forend, I think it broke and someone smoothed the jagged edge of the break. I see no reason why it would have been cut out like that intentionally. Is the stock a pistol grip or a straight grip? .
