Default Runge Engraving History

Hi Parker members,
I am interested to learn more about the history of Parker engraving, and particularly about Robert Runge Junior. I have seen some of his work on the Parker DelGrego upgrades up until 1987 or so. How long did Runge Jr. continue to do engraving for these upgrades and did his work change in style or quality over time? Thank you. Robin

There is no Robert Runge "Junior". Robert Rudolph Runge was the father of Robert Phoenix Runge. The son began work in Meriden with Parker around the time of the Remington buyout of Parker Brothers, c. 1934. Both of them were invited to make the move to Illion NY in 1937 when Remington ceased operations in Meriden and moved Parker manufacturing to Illion.

For more information and perspective on Parker Bros. and Remington Parker engravers, see Dean Romig's comprehensive chart showing the tenure and location of engravers working during both the Meriden and Illion eras of Parker Gun manufacture. For a detailed biography of Robert Phoenix Runge, see my article in The Double Gun Journal, Volume Eleven, Issue 3, page 41, entitled, "When I Paint My Masterpiece."

Hi Kevin,
Thanks for the clarification on the father and son Runge team. I did not know their full names. Where can I find Dean's chart on Parker engravers that you reference? My apologies as I am a new member and still learning! I will look for the issue of The Double Gun Journal as it sounds fascinating.

The link is a post by Dean Romig that provides a list of Parker Engravers. It is contained in the thread entitled Wm H. Gough one below this one.
The link opens for me. Can't explain why it may not for others.
