Your kin had a pump shotgun, the worlds first, in 1882? Some were very nicely engraved too. Here's a bit of the story of Christopher Spencer and his invention. Do you have one in your collection Edgar??

Funny thing...Went to the Wallingford gun show today and there was a Spencer pumpgun for sale. I think the damascus barrels are very cool. A great pumpgun in a homely sort of way. I think I am gonna get one and see if I can shoot it....

Richard, did have one, but I gave it away to the first kid that said he thought it was 'cool'. I'm ugly enough, but to be seen carrying that would scare little kids, and small dogs too.
Dave, Of coarse you can shoot it. Anybody that looks that good in his avatar should be able to shoot anything. I actually shot the one I had (It had a steel barrel), but not hunting. When you pump them, they make more noise than a spoon drawer at the soup kitchen. When I get the urge to lug something heavy that requires a healthy breakfast before pumping it, I take my '97 out. |

Here's what I gleaned from my sister's family research.
Christopher was my great grandfather's (Burton Spencer)first cousin, which would have made him and his brother, Perry, 2nd cousins to Chrsitopher's boys. One of Christopher's son, Percival, was the developer of the Seabee amphibious plane, made on Long Island, NY |
