Default Stumbled

I just stumbled across a 10 gauge 2 7/8” load I’d never seen before . It’s on the Hodgdon website . I’d have to improvise a bit as it calls for trimmed Federal hull and a Federal 209A of which I have neither . But it calls for an SP-10 wad which are certainly in short supply a 1/4” 16 gauge card wad with 1 1/4 ounces of shot all pushed by 27.5 grains of WIN 572 . I’ve got a fair amount of 572 so I’ll try it in both Remington and Chedright hulls primed with Chedrights . Also use red beans in place of the spacer wad .

That is one of three 2 7/8" 10ga loads on the Hodgdon reloading web site. They have been out for several years, I put them on the 10ga reloading spreadsheet back in 2019. The latest version updated in June '22 is here.

Pete I didn't see the loads using Blue and Longshot until I went back just now and looked .

I'd try them but I've never had any IMR Blue and I traded what Longshot I had to a friend .

Between SR7625 , Unique , Universal Clays , Red Dot and now the 572 I should have enough to shoot the 10 gauge for two lifetimes provided I don't run out of wads .

Craig, the 10 loves the Longshot. Good velocity with low pressure (tested), my choice for the 10. I'm using an SP-10 with a 1/2" 16 ga. fiber wad in the bottom then 1 1/4 oz. lead shot, Cheddite hull and primer, 30.2 gr. Longshot. Pleasant to shoot, hits like a train. Tested the same w/o the fiber wad and 1 5/16 oz. #5 bismuth, nearly the same pressure and velocity. Evil on long shots at ducks.
