Default Rock Island Preview Day?

Anyone planning to attend the Rock Island auction?

We are headed up for the Preview Day, probably our last as the restrictive gun laws of Illinois have finally run Rock Island out of town (and headed to Texas).

That's a piece of news I hadn't heard. Is there a mid-Atlantic state that would be friendly, like North Carolina or some such?

Hard to beat Texas for how it treats gun related businesses I guess.

Default Some Intrigue Regarding the RI move to Texas

We spent some good time yesterday at the Rock Island preview day. Some interesting guns.

I talked with several workers that I've come to know over the years and each had a slightly different response to my questions regarding the company's move to Texas. One indicated that he thought the company was going to keep the Illinois facility. The others told me that communication from the top was not detailed and they really had no idea what was happening. The catalog has a statement from Kevin Hogan that the new facility in Texas should be ready for the December Premiere Auction.

I guess time will tell.

Is anyone attending the auction? We'll be there.

Garry,

I was at the Colorado Gun Collectors show yesterday. Quite a few auction houses were there including RIA. The guy I talked with said they are setting up a 2nd venue in the Dallas, TX area and were continuing the IL auction. Time will tell.

The guns I watched at the sale have by and large gone for below estimate or at the lower end...except one of those I was interested in that started above the estimate and beyond my means.

A very different feel to the sale this time. I'll try for one last treasure today, and hope that I can still drive to an auction in the future.

Do you possibly know what the GH 8 with fluid steel barrels hammered at ? I was planning to watch online and possibly bid but I fell asleep

Thanks, Mark. We are just now home from the auction. It was very sparsely attended today (but plenty of bidder cards with the phone bank).

The barbecue was excellent -- almost worth the long drive up. I did manage to bring home an antique treasure, but it was a weird auction, not like others from recent memory. I guess all are unique.

Craig, and you other 8 gauge fans, it sure seems that the market is bringing the big guns out for sale. They seem to be coming out of the woodwork, as are the longer barreled guns. You guys are driving the market.

The buyers premium was 20% correct ? If that’s the case that GH 8 cost $9600 plus ship/tax . $9500-$10,000 for a fluid steel barreled 8 sounds pretty decent to me
