The Covid 19 Super 30
In the beginning of the pandemic and imposed quarantines I had way to much time on my hands. With the expectations of a good sporting clays season I had spent the winter getting my shot shell supply fully stocked when along comes Covid. I decided I needed more like wanted another rifle or rifles to be exact. I began searching the web (always a dangerous activity for me) and found some that needed a new home but I really wasn't hitting the home run I was hoping for when the light came on. A new custom single shot would brighten the darkness of quarantine. I choose a Ruger #1 as the platform and found a 22/250 on Guns International . My gunsmith wasn't real busy and we found a suitable blank of English walnut for the stock. We (I really men the smith) tricked out the action by removing the metal that forms the little tabs on the bottom front of the action, sculpted the bottom metal ahead of the lever and recessed the safety slide. The forend tip is buffalo horn and all the metal was sent off for color case hardening even the barrel band for the sling. A customn quarter rib encompasses the rear sight with one folding leaf and Tally QD rings. The front sight is banded as well with an ivory bead. The project started in March and was completed just before I left for Wyoming the end of September. I went with a classic caliber the 300 H&H which was originally referred to as the Super 30. So far it like 165 BTSP over 69 grains of Reloader 19 for 3000 FPS. Watch out white tails.
