Steve, I don't know about being special but I use Pledge furniture polish. I've used it for years on polycarbonate aircraft windows to shed water and fill in scratches. So, I started using it on my gun stocks as well. I have not experienced any negative effects. This will probably draw the ire of the purists here.

As of late, I've been stuck on Ballistol. It stinks terribly but it sure makes stuff look nice and seems to keep virtually everything it's applied to protected. Outside of that, this stuff smells good. (swiped from my lovely brides arsenal)
