Kind of interesting considering that CAC Associates, the distributor in western PA that supplies many gun shops in PA and nearby states, currently shows Cheddite 209's at $46.00/1000.

I have no idea where this guy gets his inventory but I have an inkling it might be Ron Shirk. I do know the shop that recently had Clays and WSF at very reasonable prices deals with Shirk's. I suspect good shops that are weathering the storm are scouting the distributor network for whatever they need and wherever it might be.

I just paid 189.93 for 2000 CCI delivered (max allowed) from Brownells. 75 dollars per thousand rest Haz mat shipping. That’s a lot but down to couple thousand on hand. Spring coming, the SxS April & shooting with my grandson lack of primers could stop it.

Look at it another way. Saturday round of clays with grandson using two Parker’s. Targets, Shells, Gas, lunch etc. it’s 200 bucks. We shoot some extra warm ups figure 250 shell day.. At that price 23 dollars is for primers. It’s going to kill the sport if it continues, rampant inflation will change other things too.

These days you have to stay alert for opportunities when they present themselves. Reloaders cannot wait until they need a component to start looking for an item. These $35 primers I have been in cue for them for over 9 months. I am awaiting delivery of 5000 Cheddites from Balistic Poducts that came to $63.20 after all fees are applied. They are destined for my son and grandson. If I had known of the opportunity for $35 primers I would not have bought this last batch from BP.

I just finished reloading all of the shells I will need for 2022 with the last of my pri-pandemic supplies which nets 20 ga at $4.50 a box and 12's at $4.75. All of this higher priced stuff will go for 2023/24, Who knows what components will cost by then.

Thought I was in good shot shell loading shape until my grandson was virtual school 20-21 school year. Terrible thing for a 13 year old. No middle school virtual classes on Mondays signed him up for Skeet lessons with a very good lady instructor. 2 pm every week fall of 2020. . He took well to it, switched him to Sporting clays early 2021 no more skeet. It’s amazing how many shotgun shells a young teenager can shoot. Most lessons were 100-150 shells.

Running low on primers until a friend found 25,000 new WW 209’s with a gun snow dealer who thought the market peaked at 55 dollars a thousand. He bought them all, my share was case of 5000. That case down to 2000, recent expensive Brownells purchase topped me up.

Latest with the grandson is lower volume better practice. Small course owner near me has switched us to 5 shot 10 station rounds. Single, report pair, true pair. All from different traps no repeats. It’s way more fun than banging out multiple pairs off the same two traps. We still shoot full courses at times the small volume quality target course is improving his skills while conserving ammo.

Great for your grandson, but hard on grandpas ammo supply and worth it Sounds like your grandson is shooting something akin to 5-stand. I find a well constructed 5-stand more challenging than a regular sporting course. Do what you have to do to keep him in the game. My grandson is away at college but calls to see how the shooting is going. He called last week to inform me of his semester break schedule and to ask "Where are we shooting when I'm home?" Puts a smile on my face.

Long way from primers but

It’s like a 5 stand target presentation 1 2&2 but couple dozen shooting stands spread over 3 acres. Probably 30 traps half auto half manual. Trapper sits at the manual fires the auto trap wireless. Course owner one of the early US sporting shooters and master when it comes to presentations. Incoming, outgoing, through the trees, narrow windows, skipping off water and different every week. He likes to make the shooter “dance” have to change foot position on pairs.
