Today I measured the #1 bismuth shot I received from RotoMetals. Two one ounce samples had 84 and 85 pellets, respectively. Five half ounce samples had 43, 43, 42, 44 and 43 pellets, respectfully, which extrapolates to 86, 86, 84, 88 and 86 pellets per ounce. Therefore, the average pellet count was 85.5 per ounce (~106 pellets in a 1.25 ounce load). Seems fairly consistent in size and comparable with #2 lead.

I have tons of Bismuth shot, mostly in sizes larger than I would generally use..... all I have to do is cut the 3.5" 12ga and 10ga shells open to get it. I cleaned a supplier out of everything he had in bismuth shotshells and got 8 cases for the price of just the shot at the time. You can carefully cut the case at the crimp and dump the shot + buffer then reload and crimp the shortened shell with lead shot for target or outhouse shooting. A bit of a chore though....
