Default LC Smiths with matching serial numbers

Just acquired two LC Smiths with identical serial numbers. Both are 12 gauge Field Grades and all serial numbers on all parts are the same.

The mystery of LC Smith serial numbers continues...

Is one gun a Featherweight Frame and the other a Regular Frame?

I am not enough of an expert to tell. There are slight differences in the two guns (different barrel lengths and chokes, different forends) One of the barrels is marked "2" under the forend and the other is not marked. Would love to find out these were a special ordered pair, but since when do you special order a pair of low grade guns? The seller had had these in his family for awhile as a pair, so I may ask him some more questions. They are good solid guns regardless.

Research letter did not reveal much, unfortunately. Apparently, there is not much information on this serial number. The existing records show only one gun made with this serial number, but there are clearly two. I will say LC Smith Collectors' Association puts together a good looking research letter. Talked to the guy I bought it from and he said his father in law acquired them from somebody in Jesup, Georgia. Jesup may not be the end of the earth, but you can see it from there. The mystery continues . . .
