Default Top lever position

Is there a correct position for the top lever? Have seen some dead center and others at varying degrees off center to right. Was original position determined by gauge, whether a Meridian gun or Remington era, hammer or hammerless? Did all guns start out dead center or slightly right but moved further right through use?

Lever position on Parkers means nothing. They were set at the factory and where they were is where they were. Each gun is different. The lever can move only a very little amount before the gun is just plain loose.

I have disassembled only 6 or 7 Parkers, both hammer and hammerless. After a thorough cleaning and reassembly, I discovered that the toplever, and its receptacle in the receiver, were machined to where the toplever would absolutely not go past center to the left without some serious peening of the metal.
