Default Father's Day

I was just remembering the special times I spent with my dad. These photos were taken by him during our yearly backpacking trip to the High Sierras to fish the headwaters of the San Joaquin river. What great times they were!

It’s great that you had pictures to share. What time period was this?

Those are wonderful pictures Wayne. Looks like 1960's or 70's...?

In that second picture, it doesn't look like a cap gun on your hip. Very young to have been trained and trusted to have a pistol. Your Dad must have been a very special guy.

These photos were taken in 1964. We carried the 22 revolvers loaded with birdshot since the area was rattlesnake infested. Today I wouldn't think of shooting a snake I came across on the trail. We hung the trout up to dryout at night and rolled them up on the outside of the sleeping bags when we hiked out of the canyon.
At home, we soaked the trout in the sink to rehydrate them and then froze them to eat at a later date. They tasted fine.

In addition to my father, I had the attention of his next two younger brothers who had no children. Dad on the ladder, Irv and Larry (aka Jinx) at Irv's cabin at Lake Cle Elum, Washington, the day before my U of W graduation --

Guns from left, my Super-Fox, Dad's Parker, unknown (whoever took the picture?), Irv's Model 870AP with a Poly-Choke.

Dad and me with salmon at Sekiu, Washington --

Those Sekiu salmon seem kind of mundane after being married to an Alaska girl for forty-five years.
